ICE (car stereo) in a Dolly?

I'm thinking of fitting a radio/cassette or possibly a CD player, but it's been a very long time since I fitted a stereo to a Triumph. I seem to recall that there are two types, which differ in size. The Triumph seemed to need the narrower type. Is this still the case? Can you get a "modern" unit to fit in a Dolly? Any advice appreciated. By the way, I'm not planning to spend a fortune on a system...:)

Yes, getting a modern unit to fit is no hassle. You have to just slightly trim the existing surround to fit it properly :)

Mine was an off-the-shelf jobby from my local garage, 40w per channel, RDS, CD Player, worked lovely and didn't look too out of place. I quite liked it really :)

Was a JVC. Took about ten minutes to wire up and about an hour to install in total, what with trimming the surround back.

I had a normal DIN sized head unit in my 1850 Auto and had a 6 disc auto changer under the front passenger seat, worked a treat.
You`ll need to lose the centre air vent to fit that double DIN Sony one I reckon, even then it`ll be tight.

I got a normal Din size to fit in the existing plastic cowling. Or one would fit under the passenger seat although it looked a bit weird when I pushed the seat all the way back..I'd go with a cheap CD player that takes MP3s saves all that cd changing. 150 tracks no problem saves on getting a multichanger. Mine was a cheap goodmans for £33 off the bay (and almost new IIRC - certainly seems that way) or try kentcarradio on the bay. Got one from him....twas fine.


Didn't take much wiring either. Just what was there plus some speaker wires.

I made a cut short parcel shelf for mine in the end, I'll do a picture of it tomorrow if I get back from work in time.
