Unobtanium and old core

#1 Post by tinweevil »

Whenever breaking a car please do not dispose of any of the following. Stick 'em in a loft or behind the sofa, sooner or later someone will be along asking:

- Wiring loom, even if loom is damaged keep the connectors.
- Washer jets especially if tube is still solidly attached to the plate.
- Early bonnet locator rubbers if not turned to marshmallow.
- Front screens if not delaminating, all tints.
- Rear screens if not delaminating especially if the demister works, all tints.
- Screen wash pump, top of bottle type.
- Rear view mirror including bracket - DO NOT attempt to separate these, always unscrew from car complete.
- Original inlet hose supports
- Sprint load sensing valve
- Sprint axle castle nut
- Wheel nuts
- Time clock
- Plastic radio housing and blanking plate.
- Chrome finisher where C pillar meets rear wing leading edge.
- FWD front indicator/sidelight assembly
- rear suspension lower arms for dolomites
- rear exhaust hanging bracket
- GEX750 - 1500 front exhaust support clamp
- 153393 - steering column upper bearing
- Quarterlight rubber seals
- Nylon quarterlight 'bearings'
- Rear pillar vinyl trims. Warm these gently with a hairdryer to remove them. Peel them cold and they will crack.
- Auto gearbox mount.
- Engine bay bulkhead pad.
- Sealed Beam 5 inch twin-filament headlights.
- outer headlamp bowls & inner headlamp support assemblies. The adjusters can be replaced so don't chuck em just because they don't adjust.
- outer headlamp rubber gasket retaining half-rings

The club needs your old core of the following items for reconditioning:

- front suspension lower tie bars
- clutch master
- clutch slave
- brake master
- starter motor including solenoid
- alternator
- voltage regulator
- 1300 & 1500 FWD clutch cover
- rear brake shoes

What else?

Trim is always useful - finishing strips, chromed parts, clips, anything salvagable from the interiors....

Things that are worth saving as well would be :
- Rear axle castle nuts for Sprints
- Brake drum retaining screws
- Wheelnuts

I'll add any others I remember :D

The chrome finisher which goes on the top of the rear wing leading up to the chrome strip on the roof (if you know what I mean) the retaining peg often is missing and are very difficult to find a good one to replace it and can let water into the boot if the peg has gone AWOL.

Time Clocks - must be able to refurb these somewhere?

1300FWD front indicator/side lights - I understand are VERY hard to find in any condition.

I've bought drum retaining screws recently from my local factor, I'll check they are still available next time I'm there and get a stock if they are on the way out.

Ah nice one :)

With fasteners like that I'm sure that there's usually somewhere you can source them from but it's a matter of knowing where or who I guess :)

We have some very good trade supply contacts for fasteners.
Nuts, bolts, washers etc af all materials, types etc.
All supplied in quantitys of 100 upwards.- good prices.
If the club ( or anyone else for that matter ) is looking to hold stocks then I can get quotes on any quantities req'd at cost.

It has to be a rolling shell?

The scrapyard near me will hapily take non rolling shells for free. Call them up in advance and see if you can liberate more bits from it....

The price per tonne is pretty good at present so they don't all want rolling shells..... the council round here remove non rolling shells for £35.00...

if it helps

I need to get it out of the garage. Might be a bit difficult if it wasn't on wheels...

Nick a bread trolley from round the back of you local qwik-e-mart.

List updated

What do we think about subframes? Somebody said if they are repaired it's an MOT fail, is that correct? If so they should be on the list.

Unobtainable parts

#15 Post by Richard the old one »

I certainly think that it would be a good idea to produce a list a parts that are no longer available plus where possible we could start to produce where known details of other possible options or work arounds.

Can I add 1500 front exhaust support clamp part GEX750
