Has anyone thought about re-maufactureing Sprint cam cover gaskets in rubber? It would be good to have a re-useable gasket especially as the need to remove it so often for re-torques.

It would be nice if it could also include the D pieces too - eliminating another part which is easily lost/damaged, and it would help hold the gasket in place when fitting.

c'mon, somebody, this would be a good part to manufacture........

I use a gasket cement, works a treat. Paint both surface with the gloop leave to go tack for 5 mins then reassemble. The gaskets are still fiddly though and prone to breaking, wonder if cork would make a good seal?

Yes, it was used for the rocker cover seal on my old Allegro (yeah, I know).

But the Sprint needs the gasket to be thin, otherwise the seals to the plug tubes could be affected.
Cork cut that thin would be very prone to breakage.

Have you tried using grease instead of gasket sealant?

Malcolm recommended that I did it on my Sprint - seemed to work a treat. Apparently it also means that you can easily re-use the gasket, but I haven't tried that yet, so don't know for sure.

We glue the gasket to the cam cover with silicon and let it dry. After the sealant dries, then secure the cam cover to the head with no sealant on the head face, no leaks and easy to remove the cam cover and the gaskets can last for many years/rebuilds.
