Mike, it's comforting to know that there are still people around who make the same sort of mistakes I do, but at least were not in the same league as my father in law. He put petrol in a diesel car and filled up the engine with water because the oil filler cap looked like the cap on the rad of a car ...

Maybe the heel on my "new" points is too short. To get a big enough gap to give me 39 degrees of dwell I close the gap so far but then the dizzy cam misses the heel and doesn't open the points at all.<br>

Dunno what the dwell is all about to be honest. Something to do with the number of degrees of rotation of the crank or maybe the rotor arm that the points are open or shut?<br>

Dwell Angle
I have borrowed a dwell meter from a chap across the road, so I just gave it a go. My Autobook for the 1850 says the dwell angle is 40 degrees +/-1 degree. The best I can get is about 25 degrees any more and the points don't open any more. I put on new points, condenser, leads and started off ...
