my back end feels a bit "boaty"

I only read this after I had added the note about driving a 1500SE this evening with shot rear tie rod bushes. I certainly would not drive a car in that state.

REAR TIE BAR BUSHES

I was asked to drive a 1500SE this evening as it was not handling very well.<br>
<br>
When I investiged I found that the rear tie bar bushes were shot. It is certainly an experience driving a dolomite with shot rear tie rod bushes.<br>

It took me a while to find out which way round the new ...

Missing 1500 clutch fulcrum pin

I was asked to look at a 1500SE this evening and to give my comments on the clutch.<br>
<br>
I found that the fulcrum pivot pin had dropped out. Has anyone been able to fit a new pin without taking the gearbox and bellhousiing off?<br>
<br>
I advised that the improved type of pin with the top hat ...

oil to rocker shaft

I have been doing some comparison checks on the five 1500 engines that I have access to. I discovered that two out of the five had very little oil coming out of the oil-way blanking hole at the rear of the head (approx 10ml in a 30 second period) when I took the blanking bolt out and replaced it ...

Anti freeze

I read somewhere that anti freeze was not such a good conductor of heat as water and that it was best to keep the percentage used as low as possible. Since I reduced the concentration used to 25% my 1500 engine does not seem to overheat. <br>
<br>
I also added a water wetter to improve the heat ...

Oil feed to rockers

Hi Jod.<br>
<br>
I am glad you have been reading the discussion board and have provided us with the detail of the system. I was talking to Malcolm England last night and he said that you were the person to talk to at the TDCIR if I had not sorted out my problems by then.<br>
<br>
It was about 12 ...

Oli to rocker shaft

The best way to go may be to fit a rocker oil feed kit that various suppliers sell as this would solve the problem once and for all time. <br>
<br>
It is a external pipe that feeds oil from the blanking plug hole in the main engine bloc to the cylinder head blanking plug. <br>

oil to rocker shaft

You can get an engine flushing oil but I do not know how well it works when you have a blockage. <br>
<br>
Are you aware that the bolt beside the petrol pump (rear of pump) also goes into or blanks the oil way in the engine block. It may pay to take it out and have a poke around in it with a piece ...

oil supply to rockers

Question for BDN 12V.<br>
<br>
Have you run the engine with the oilway bolt at the rear of the head out as I am curious to know what your flow rate and pressure is like at that point.<br>
<br>
On the two engine that I have looked at as I stated earlier there was very little pressure and the flow ...

If you are a TDC member you may have been reading the series of articles I have written titled Running the ‘Old’ car’s. Below is an extract from the draft report for the next edition of DM, which you may find interesting. <br>

Flasher unit replacement

I recommend that do not get a direct replacement as <br>
a common problem with the original type is if you have a heavy electrical load on such as rear window heater this will cause the voltage available to drop and this in turn slows up the flasher. <br>
<br>
The replacement that Malc has found is ...

Prop shaft U/Js and central bearing replacement

I should have stated that I have only worked on 1500cc prop shafts if you want info on this type I will have a look at one over the weekend to remind me of the process.

Replacing prop shaft U/Js

I have lost count of the number of U/Js that I have replaced over the years without getting the propshaft’s rebalanced. The official Triumph workshop manual just has a note that states. “When new universal joints are fitted, mark the flange relative to the yoke and ensure that the units are replaced ...

Prop U/Js

Hi Jon<br>
<br>
I would guess that your 50k miles would be about right. When I have time I must go through my records and see what it works out to be. <br>
<br>
Between them the family cars did about 35k miles last year so I am expecting to have to change another U/J before too long. I have found on ...
