Bad news for my Dolly
Took my sprint over to Mark at Jigsaw racing today for his diagnosis of what I would need to do to get it a) MOT'd and b) prepared for racing/hillclimbs/sprints etc. I don't think you could find a bigger Triumph enthusiast.

I knew that the tub was in need of some serious welding particularly around the front mounts which would be the major hurdle in getting her back on the road. Marks verdict was that it would need around 40 hours of welding. His opinion was that it wouldn't be advisable to race in something that had been that patched up.

As luck would have it (and I do believe that it is luck) he has a rust free Inca Yellow rolling shell stripped and ready to be refiitted. The welding work work needed on my Inca Yellow Sprint would have been in well in excess of what he is currently asking for the shell. Being a true follower of the path of least resistance, I'm going to go for his shell with my bits.

Anyway he is going to be stripping COD 685T in a months time and then reconditioning and replacing parts as and where necessary.

I had a look at the ex Andy Rouse Sprint that he has there. Beautiful is all I can say. I was most impressed by the quality of the door cappings. More Daimler than Triumph!

There will be some parts available from the strip that I'm not going to need anymore, mainly interior. Keep an eye out on ebay in a month or so's time under my username.

My objective is to be having some of the fun that Smifter is currently having. Next year will probably be fairly casual with a few track days, hill climbs etc with a view to entering a suitable race series in 2005 (Budget permitting of course).

I'll try and post some pictures up of the rebuild as it goes along.
I best not answer that as to protect the guilty. 5 miles door to door is all I'm going to say. I didn't realise it was quite that bad but I suppose you always try and overlook the ugly bits when its your own car and you have zero welding skills.
I too, have met Mark at Jigsaw, and as you say, it would be hard to find a "bigger" enthusiast !! What colour is the interior you will be shifting ?, I am looking for chestnut.
If you are only five miles from Jigsaw, then you must be quite close to me, Im at Market Harborough.
Hi,

I'm in Kettering close to the football ground so not too far. Unfortunately, my interior is a very good condition black.

Mark will be collating all the stripped bits for sale once he has taken it to bits. The car is in his yard parked with all the junkers at the moment. There is a very nice Tudor Riviera webasto roof that will be coming off if you are interested. I had it reconditioned by a company in SE London about 12 months ago.

Hope to meet up with you sometime.
I frequent this and the RSVR.Net forum and ScooterG is my username on that site. I was on there before logging onto this site. For some reason it kept me logged in as ScooterG.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
I got the impression that Mark looks in on the forum from time to time. I'm sure you meant bigger in the sense that I did, i.e. the one that wouldn't get you flattened by the man himself.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">
Theres an extra 10 hours of labour added to my invoice. Bugger.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /tired.gif ALT="|I">
Oi Dave, that's TDCIR weekend. Aren't you coming over?

Still can't get my head around the 40 hour quote - we have comprehensively welded the blue one, inner cills, wheel arches, inner wings, boot floor both sides and well, chassis rail, one complete outer wing, inner front panel and headlamp support (OK the last 3 items were our fault) but adding it all up it comes to about 24 hours between us and we aren't that quick!

Re: Bad news for my Dolly
Dave, unfortunately I'll be in France playin golf that weekend. When I say playing golf, read losing £50 quids worth of balls and swearing alot. Great fun. Last time I played there I rolled a golf buggy which I suppose doesn't bode well for my planned excursion into motorsport!

Alun, I think when he said 40 hours he was estimating and trying to convey to me that it was going to be very expensive and probably not economical in the long run. Anything over 20 hours would be more than the rust free shell. I don't like the fact that by taking this option there is going to be 1 less dolly on the roads but I'm balancing that out by focusing on the fact that a previously redundant shell is about to be recommisioned. Hopefully in some style!

If anyone wants what will be left of COD 685T and would like to spend however many hours it takes to weld it up then its yours for free. I'd even leave the roof intact with its lovely webasto if I knew it was going to go to somebody who had the skills and time to bring it back to life.

email me at scott at clothfair dot co dot uk if you are interested
COSFORD
WHO BLOODY ORGANISES THESE THINGS.??
Cosford, about a one and half hour drive,<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">
Cranford, half an hour,<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">
Foxton, 2 minutes.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /tired.gif ALT="|I">
All on the same day.!!! I suppose we really ought to go to TDCDIR, though, didnt we.?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> .

as for 40 hours welding, I suppose it depends what has to be moved/removed etc to get at what needs welding.
But that does sound like a LOT of welding time.
Stripped Dolly
Went over to Jigsaw today and found her in bits. Took a load of pictures of the rotten stuff whic I'll download tomorrow and look to upload somewhere..

If people want to have a look at them and give me their opinion on how difficult the areas in question are to weld up it would be appreciated. As I've said before, I'm no mechanic and it would be interesting to see the honest opinions of those who have probably had to deal with the relevant areas.

So, car is now stripped, and engine and all key components are going to be reconditioned. I wasn't expecting it to be done for another month or so but it's good to see progress is being made.
