Depending on cost. Simple as that. I think everyone would love to race but the costs involved in racing competitively can be horrendous. <br>

Realistically,it's looking like next season before we'll be able to do anything.If two or three people are <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>seriously</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> interested in getting onto the track right now,we may be able to enter them in a couple of races towards the end of the current season.<br>
I expect that the costs might well put a lot of people off doing this,but until we have an idea of how many <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>might</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> be interested,it's not worth us going into any more detail.<br>

I'm very interested. Like the others, I'd need to know the sort of costs involved but if they aren't ridiculous count me in.<br>

Oh yes and I would definately be out till next year, old sprinty is on axle stands with most of the underside of the car in little orange piles on the floor.

...........interested as long as I can get my car brought up to scratch. Anybody know a decent/sympathetic welder in the Northants area. They could have it over the winter to sort out. No major rush.<br>

Back to the racing stuff though. I was looking onto the HSCC 70's saloon series. Costs for first timers seemed reasonable(ish). Below are the details. It might give some people who weren't sure on costs a rough idea. Having read through their technical regs for this series I was left with the impression that you have to run standard carbs and I'm not exactly keen on ditching my twin 45 webers. Maybe a less restrictive series would suit the vast majority who like to try and push that BHP figure up.<br>

HSCC Novice Incentive Scheme<br>
The scheme is open to novice competitors with no previous race or kart experience who wish to compete in any HSCC Championship or Series for which they are eligible.<br>
<br>
Included in the scheme are the following:<br>

HSCC Racing Membership - normal price £150.00<br>
HSCC Vehicle Identity forma - normal price £10.00<br>
Four race entry fees - Normal prices range from £125 to £200. (Valid for HSCC promoted events only.)<br>

As most of you may have gathered from other posts, my Sprint is being race prepped from the ground up by Jigsaw Racing. I sat down with Mark at Jigsaw yesterday and had a long chat with him about what modifications I wanted to do to it etc etc. <br>

Anyway, before you can think about what you want to put on, you have to make sure that what you are putting on is going to get you past the scrutineers at whatever races you go to. The last thing you want to be doing is spending a fortune on engine mods only to find that the regs in your series only allow virtually standard vehicles.<br>

As has previously been reported earlier in this thread, there was talk of getting Sprints/Dolomites accepted within a race series under the banner of the TR Register. The TR Register race with the TSSC and as such it is a Marque based series. <br>
<br>
My main motivation is to get racing, I don't really mind where and who with but I am, as I suspect all of you, a lover of Triumphs and would therefore prefer to spend my time amongst others of the same persuasion. From what I have looked at and heard, racing at our level (Enthusiastic enthusiasts!) is going to cost pretty much the same wherever you go. From what I can see, the TR register and TSSC have got their stuff together and know how to do a race season.<br>

I am going to have my Sprint built to their regs which I would imagine would be Group D or F. Group D is basically tuned vehicles between 2 and 2.4 litres, Group F is modified vehicles up to 3 Litres. It is not as restrictive as the regs I saw for the HSCC.<br>

Now, Mark has raised the subject of Sprints/Dolomites being welcomed into the fold of the TR Register and the question that gets fired back by the register is 'well how many are interested?' I volunteered to try and pool together those people who are seriously interested in doing this in order that it can be debated at their AGM. Mark will put the proposal forward if we can show that there are people who have a car they want to race or are working towards building one that they want to race. We can at least try and get our foot in the door. The members can then vote yes or no on allowing us in. My thoughts are that we would be welcomed, but then I am an eternal optimist.<br>

The subject of cost has been raised before and I am going to obtain an accurate breakdown of all costs that you will encounter if you go racing. Mark has indicated to me that you should be looking in the region of £500 per meeting. I'm personally planning on operating on as small a budget as possible. I will drive to the events in my Sprint as I won't be able to afford the cost of a trailer and tow vehicle. I may even camp out and forgoe the cost of hotels. Over a season, these savings will add up and I reckon will reduce that cost per meeting figure to around £400.<br>

The questions in the mean time are:<br>

1) Who wants to go racing next season?<br>
2) Who wants to work towards racing in 2005?<br>
3) Do you have any preference to which series you race in?<br>
4) Cay you afford the time and money needed?<br>

This all sounds very exciting, I've just stumbled across this discussion as I'm trying to assess the perormance of Dolomites on the race circuit.<br>

Does anyone out there have a good example of what's achieveable in a Dolomite with regards to lap times at Mallory, Cadwell, Silverstone or Thruxton? that would help lots...<br>
