Interest.

#4 Post by Carsreunited » Sat Jan 03, 2004 4:21 pm

There seems to be some interest in making this trip, or at least Martin (Maddmart) and Graeme (Smifter) have voiced their possible intentions.

I'm 95% ceratin that I'm going to go along so who is interested in showing up the guy whose will have spent a small fortune on race preparing his car (me) by lapping quicker in a standard or near standard car???

Must be some takers out there.........
When is a race not a race?

#5 Post by SMIFTER » Sat Jan 03, 2004 7:24 pm

I'm concerned about the statement that awards will be made for the fastest timed lap.

If your timing laps for a trophy then it becomes a competition.

If it becomes a competition people may push their driving skills too far if they are that way inclined (which most people who drive on race circuits are).

Also its a competition then there is the not insignificant matter of insurances, scrutineering, entrant registration and MSA approval who are the governining body for UK motorsport events.

IMO its not entirely responsible to time laps on 'fun' track days.

Maybe I'm over reacting, maybe not. Safety is of paramount importance though when you are chucking a 30 year car around at 3 figure speeds.

I've dropped a line to the event organiser to get his views.
Just for clarification mine certainly was intended as <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">
(Sitting with baited breath and seriously considering that awards for the fasted timed lap might be quite a good idea.)<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Trackday Anglesey

#7 Post by benran » Sat Jan 03, 2004 10:08 pm

Hi to all
Have noted your comments,
The Trackday is a FUN classic day.
This event offers drivers the opportunity to experience the circuit using their own vehicle in a
NON-COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT.
I received a suggestion that perhaps those that would like to do a fast lap could do one at the end of the day, 1 car on the track at a time for 1 lap, which maybe “could be timed”, this is only an idea.
Some of you I am sure would like thisand some wont.????
If you have some ideas please let me know.
More information can be found at www.benran.net.
This is the first time I have done any thing like this and I know I will make some mistakes, if we all help each other then we should keep them to a Minimum, and make it a day not to forget.
Best Regards Dave

Just realised that I have kind of got my interpretion of Graeme's comments all a4se about face.

I hadn't read the original post thoroughly and having just read it again realised that the organisers had mentioned fastest times lap etc. I assumed it was going to be your regular track day (my experience of them is limited) where this type of thing isn't on the itinerary as far as I have seen.

I thought that Graeme was talking about my tongue in cheek reference to more standard sprints whooping me and mine on a more informal timing system. i.e somebody standing there at one point in the track and doing it roughly on their watch.

Phew. Thought I had upset people then!

Dave, only my thoughts but you might have quite a few people interested in being timed but I would imagine if 30 cars wanted to be timed that would probably need the track to be clear for at least half an hour. Some people might prefer to be running group sessions and might feel like they have lost the opportunity to put 10 more laps in. Personally, I don't mind either way.

Also, what are the numbers limited to and how many more slots do you have?

Cheers

Scott
trackday

#9 Post by benran » Sun Jan 04, 2004 5:26 pm

Hi Scott
After talking to the track organisers, we are going to limit to 50 cars, the brake down will be some thing like this.
3 x 20 min sessions per hour, about 15 laps per session, ( thinking of age and the brakes )
3 hours in the morning, 1 hour for lunch, 3 hours in the after noon and as an idea the last hour for the guys that would like to time a lap with a stop watch at the side of the track ( only an idea )
Till now 32 have pledge to come but all have not payed the deposit yet, they will be on the way,
It is on a first come first served basis, and as it is going now, I think we will reach the quote soon, so if you are thinking of comming get booked in.

Best Regards Dave
I also spoke with Dave this evening. He said he was thinking about allowing 60 cars to enter because of the great response, but charging less because you will get less tracktime.

Great

#14 Post by Carsreunited » Tue Jan 06, 2004 11:56 pm
The usual suspects then! Come on people, there must be a few more takers for what will be around 2 hours track time per car!

Oh, I spoke with Dave and he mentioned that a piggy is going to get roasted as well. He was keen to emphasise that it will be a fun day not just for the people blatting around the track. I'm going to be getting there on the Saturday with a tent, wife and three kids in tow from 6 years old to 2 years old so if you do come along, bring some normal non petrol head people for my wife to talk to!

Should be a great day.
