We've seen Spitfires humiliate 911's arounds Brands, but I spose they we're the 'old' equivalent of Darren's machine with a full race Sprint lump in them! - Had to eat my words after watching the rear wheels tuck in at druids (watch that 3.0RS fly past the Spitfire), and then see the Spitfire fly past bleeding everthing! Always fancied a Spitfire with a Sprint lump, got a picture or two of a gt6 at Prescott with a Sprint lump on the web site.

Oh, and they looked like a standard sptifire and gt6, until you got under the bonnet!
I think Darren's lost the element of surprise - everyone in the universe knows about his car now thats to the article in Retro!

And its easy to tell its not a Triumph engine - how many Sprints go 'psst-tsssch' on overrun?

I think it would be nice if he put it to some competition use though rather than driving up and down a straight 1/4 mile road.

Having trouble sourcing some parts from overseas at the moment,
Hope to have the car run in and fully set up by March
Performance ford want me to do a top speed run with there very accurate timing gear
The gearing i will be using will give me a theoretical 205 mph at 9000 rpm,
If it doesn't't take off i will be doing as many track days as possible this year,
I definitely want to go to some with fellow Dolly owners,
I don't seem to get much time at the moment to use my pc as im always doing something lately ( not enough hours in a day)
When you say 'if it doesn't take off' is there more to the challenge than passing 200mph?? How long are you planning to be airborne for?

It would be good to see you at this particular track day as there would be nearly a half dozen dolomites on track. We could all go out in one session and do a flypast on the home straight!!

When and where are you planning to do this 200mph run? Any spectators welcome?
Just let us know when you know if you see what I mean. If its of interest to them to compare your hyper fast acceleration and top end speed to a sprint engined sprint then I'd be up for that. I'm sure the humiliating performance difference would bring a smile to all those Ford readers!
Any more spaces?

#40 Post by Carsreunited » Sat Feb 21, 2004 8:51 pm

Dave,

Any more spaces left.? I also wanted to know if this is restricted to classic cars as my wifes friend might want to come along. She has no track experience and owns a new style Cooper S Mini.

Cheers,
You never know!

Looks Like I've got the green light from Dave to take the Smart Roadster on track in lieu of a Triumph so you might get away with it.

Must send him the rest of the cash - Sorry Dave!

any more spaces

#42 Post by benran » Sun Mar 07, 2004 8:22 pm

Hi Scott
Sorry I hav'ent looked in for a while, what with work and show time has been on the short side.
Yes there are a few places left.
I don't know how to work it out for a new mini to come on the track. have to think about that one, as really it is a classic track day.
Smifter will come with his Roadster as smart are doing a show and a demo for every one on the day,
Not long now to the big day.
Cheers Dave
Really?!? I should get Smart to pay for my track session in that case!

18 days until I get it, should be nicely run in before Anglesey takes away a good chunk of those 16" tyres!
I got two track days and 14000 miles out of the Mini's front Pirrelli's. Slightly shocked when I went in to get them replaced and was quoted £160 per tyre. Cheapest I found was £130 per tyre.

Make sure you take your plate off Graeme otherwise some jobsworth might flag up your track use to try and null and void your warranty!

PS. Bring one of those 12v covers with you if you can and I'll exchange for cash!

Never heard of that card being played before. Cant believe they would dare seeing its supposed to be a fun sports car.

I wont be driving too far on the limit - I'll just stick a post it on the steering wheel reminding me of how much the car cost!

Anyone made any arrangements for accomodation?

Look like I'll be giving camping a miss.
