Today at Aldon

#1 Post by Carsreunited » Thu May 12, 2005 9:16 pm

Hi Gang,

This should be an intersting post for some....

I went to Aldon Autos Rolling Road today to get the timing sorted for Brands hatch. Quite an interesting day really.

Luckily I'd booked a place only a couple of miles from Alun and within an hour of being there, the spare parts service that is Alun, arrived with a spare dizzy to oil pump spindle as mine seemed slightly bent and the guys at Aldon couldn't get the dizzy back on!

My first run showed 144bhp (Flywheel) 117bhp at the wheels, with a big hole in the power at 5250rpm. The hole was so large that at 5100 it was showing 98bhp, at 5250 I had 63bhp!By 5600 I had 98bhp again.

After a change of coil to an Aldon epoxy filled race coil(The lucas Gold coil was getting excessively hot and the king lead fit wasn't great) and a few jet changes the hole had disappeared.

Final run showed 157bhp at 6400rpm and 130bhp at the wheels. I now have a useable powerband between 4250rpm and 7250rpm.

I think this effectively demonstrates the massive bhp variations people experience at Rolling Roads. I had 220bhp at Pete Baldwins. At Thruxton before it went bang, it was as fast in a straight line as the other Dolomite that set the fastest lap. Maybe 220bhp is an over estimation but I would imagine 157bhp is slightly under.

Brands should be ineteresting!

(Oh and the post went up first time for a change)
