Today on the Rollers

#1 Post by MaddMart » Tue Apr 19, 2005 7:12 pm

Well it turned out to be a long day hanging around at the garage. Got there just before 9:00 this morning & left just after 3:00. Anyway, the first thing `Dave the roller man` spotted was a diffuser in the rear carb was different from the others. When he got it out it wasn't different, it was just in the wrong way round ( I wonder who put that in ? <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :o --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> ). The compression test revealed a variation between 170 & 180 so not bad, as these were near enough the same as last year & I've done 4 track days since then. The main jets were a massive 170 (quite rich <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :eek --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> ) they are now 145s.<br>

After doing a couple of runs, jet changes & tweaks it was decided that the standard airbox with K&N panel filter wasn't letting the car breathe enough so Dave sold me a pair of second hand mesh filters (can't recall the name). That certainly did the trick.<br>

The bottom line is the peak BHP is 168 at the flywheel at about 6200. A bit disappointing as I was expecting around the 175 mark. But still, as has been said before, peak power is only there for a split second. The good news is the power band which has a nice curve between 3500 - 6500 and 149 lb ft of torque at 4750 rpm.<br>

So comparing my old setup (DCOE 40s & TT10104 cam) with the new setup (DCOE 45s & STR91 cam) I have gained approx. 20 bhp and approx. 13 lb ft of torque.<br>
