Need help choosing cam profile!
Firstly, hello!

My name is Rick and I have been racing a Sprint in Queensland for over 5 years now...

My most recent achievement was converting to EFI using MegaSquirt and some Honda CBR954 throttle bodies...

My engine internals are basically stock and I currently have the head off and want to change my cam grind...

A set of TriumphTune valve springs and an adjustable cam sprocket are my only goodies in the head.

What's a good cam considering I shouldn't be reving much over 7k with my stocker bottom end???

Welcome to the board.

This is the only accessible spec sheet that I know of

www.triumphowners.com/resources.cgi?par ...

Having spoke to about every Sprint racer (past and present) in my series, they all use the STR139 grind.......except me!

I use a Lotus profile L1 (maybe L2, I'll double check) which has around 300 degree lift so its kinda between the STR 91 and 139.

It gives me a bit more power at 3.5k than I would imagine a 139 would give. I don't have a close ratio box so its important for me to have that spread. With a close ratio I'm sure its easier to exploit the peakier nature of the 139cam.
Re: Need help choosing cam profile!
Thanks for the info!

I don't have a CR box either!

From the reading I've done on the board so far, I think the ST0091 is my choice, but I'm interested in your Lotus profile now...

I think the ST0139 might make short work of my bottom end...

How did you get that profile? Did you have to have your cam welded and ground, or did you find some other source???

Re: Need help choosing cam profile!
Mine was a reprofiled standard cam. Most cam suppliers (Kent, Newman) can undertake the regrind to whatever spec you like. Mark and Phil from Sprintparts can help you I'm sure.

Mark from Jigsaw has recently had some blank STR91's made. The blanks mean that you won't have to have really thick shims added like you do with a reprofile.

We chose the Lotus profile as Mark had found one in a Sprint engine that had previously been run in F3. I think some of the rally guys use a similar profile to the L1.

Good luck whatever you go for.
Give them a call on Monday as well. I've seen their inbox and sometimes you wonder how they manage to get anything else done other than answering emails!

send me an email to gelsthorpe at hushmail dot com and i'll forward you some manifold pictures I've come across in the past.
Re: Need help choosing cam profile!
Gave Phil at SprintParts the g/a on a cam!

He didn't have a 091 profile at hand, but how found a profile that's very similiar.

Cost is $600AUD, as it needs to be welded up...

Haven't heard back from JigSaw yet, but didn't bother ringing them. I'm pretty sure they will be beyond my budget as well as my time frame anyway.... The exchange rate between AUD and your pounds never helps! :-(

With the fuel injection on the standard cam I felt like had about 145-150hp, so I'm hoping for a good 165-175hp with this cam.....

Looking forward to some round wins next year provided everything stays reliable! Fingers crossed!!!!
