Re: oil feed problems.
The engine is back in and running. I spent two days with Nick at Jigsaw getting it back in. The new sump didn't cause any problems when dropping the engine in but with the benefit of hindsight, we should have fitted the starter motor and oil pump beforehand. As you can see the sump has 'wings' and a trap door on either side. There are holes above the trap doors as well. Oil pump pick up sits very low and in its original position. Oil capacity is now closer to 7 litres.

Once it was all in we then set about re-fixing the volvo rad. In the end we had to nibble some metal from the front valance to allow enough clearance between the electric fan and bottom pulley. Looks nice though.

A 19 row cooler will be going in over the weekend and then I will be heading up to Cadwell on Sunday to bed everything in.

Jigsaw kept to their word and I haven't been charged a cent for anything to do with the 2nd engine rebuild although it has been agreed that should the same situation present itself, we will go our seperate ways which I think is fair enough.

I'll try and get some more pictures particularly of the rad. I can't see anyone doing the conversion for a road car though.
Re: oil feed problems.
Whose design is that Scott? How much ground clearance have you lost? I take it the oil pick up pipe will now reach right down into the extra bit. Should take some effort to uncover that!
Christ knows where the pictures have gone.

Anyhow. It's a direct copy of a sump taken from a 70's Racer. Mark borrowed it from someone in Germany I believe. Ground clearance is fine as it doesn't sit any lower than the front of the subframe.

I've got my fingers crossed that it will do the job. Only time will tell I suppose.
Ive seen a sump very similar to that of you's Scott,

But this one had a extra baffle (Round)plate where the oil pick up pipe sit's,

I'm sure the person that has it will put a piccie up for you?.
Oh all right - I'll pop up the lock up and grab it - it needs a good clean up anyway!
Re: oil feed problems.
Cheers Ben. Would be interested to know how yours came into being.

One thing I've noticed with the rebuilt engine is that I'm getting higher oil pressure readings than previously. It's got a new Oil pump and I'm wondering if the previous two weren't suitable for the track abuse.

1st two builds had readings of 40psi at cold idle. 50 psi above 2000rpm but never more even at 6500rpm. When warm, these figures were around 10psi lower.

With the new pump I'm still getting 40psi cold idle but at 3000rpm its around 60psi and at around 6500rpm around 75psi (but no higher). Being a mechanical philistine, I've no idea if this is significant.
Re: oil feed problems.
50 PSI is pretty low, I'm not sure if the dry sumping would have an effect, but 60PSI sounds a lot healthier to me.

Re: oil feed problems.
Its not allowed within the regs. Things like that and ewp's are prohibited.

The manual for my Cerbera says that if the oil pressure drops below 30psi whilst on track then yous should stop immediately. Factor in some oil surge for a few seconds and it might explain why a i ran the bearings.....maybe!
