Back Axle

#1 Post by MaddMart » Tue Apr 11, 2006 7:55 pm

My Triumph 2000 back axle has just turned up. Another job for easter week, after doing all the brake discs & pads on the S2000. I haven't had chance to check the ratios but fingers crossed...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">

Are you thinking of buying up all the spare ones or something. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Anyway, what's wrong with having IRS on a Sprint.

Wrong? Nothing in theory. Often pondered the possibility over a beer or three which is about as close to trying it as I'm likely to get. The bits are just so light compared to the sprint anchor.

I nearly bought a quiet 3.45 2000 diff to rob the CW&P as both mine are noisy. I just get the feeling that even though it was quiet under the barge it might be noisy once disturbed by the transfer to the sprint axle.
Got to make some cash somehow Mart no that some bugger stole my topless carwash idea!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> Babes 'n' Bubbles

You know I'm messing with ya!

Might as well say it now - most 2000's are fitted with 4.11:1 diffs, and the diff assembly will bolt straight into a Sprint Axle no problems (I've just done mine Albiet with a Phantom Grip Limited Slip Unit shoved in).

Back to the Topless carwash - I wonder how they'd cope with an Ariel Atom?

As I hinted above, a halfway house might be 3.7, as found in autos.
I've now put the 4.1:1 cw&p in and thanks to Rimmers speedy delivery, the cover gaskets i ordered yesterday turned up this morning so I could finish the job off. I refilled the diff. with the correct LSD oil, bought from Mark at Jigsaw the last time I was up there, & took it for a test drive. It seemed a bit quieter so maybe I did have a bit of a whine before. All seemed to work ok but I didn't rant it as it was raining...power + LSD + bicycle tyres = ditch.

I don't know, I only used the crownwheel & pinion gears.
