Trackday at Rockingham anyone?

#1 Post by Carsreunited » Sun Apr 30, 2006 9:39 pm

Picking up from the Bon Voyage thread in GC where I have promised Graeme a decent drive of my 'no excuses, it will be sorted' racecar.

I've had a look at the available dates in July and this one is about the best. It's not cheap but unfortunately for me, the cheap ones at Keevil etc don't allow competition vehicles. Castle Combes noise regs are too stringent for me so its Rockingham or nothing unfortunately.

Details can be found here bookatrack.com/

The good news is that it is a Sunday (30th July) so will make life easier in not having to lose a days wages or Holiday. The price is £199 for a full day OPEN PIT LANE. That price includes a 2nd driver so if you are really cheeky, you could go halfs with a mate in the same car. As far as I can tell, you can have an unlimited amount of passengers so if anyone is interested in turning up just for a passenger ride with myself or Graeme driving then feel free.

Rockingham is right on my doorstep but I know its a bit of a trek for you SW guys.

So, who can we see? I know Graeme is up for it. I reckon Martin might, maybe Darren, Phil (please let the AJP be done by then!), Lewis?

If I get the thumbs up from you Graeme I'll book it regardless.

Scott
Sounds like great fun, real redliner Rockingham.

I would like to go to this, yes. End of July...yes, should have the motor suitable enough by then. Might find someone else to come drive with me

Going to the 'ring in it this summer as well...and rolling roads, and the 'pod a few times......Ewww gawd! I can feel an engine rebuild/transplant coming on

Thought you might.

The ring? Bloody hell mate, you don't do things by halves do you! You will have to get a camera mounted (knowing your penchant for pics and video you probably have already!). Would love to see a dolly going around there.
Port Talbot to Rockingham...nearly 200 miles! Will your car make it that far, not forgetting you need to get back, aswell as going round the track a few times.

It's good to see some new blood interested. If you have never been to Rockingham, it's actually better than you might think. Cars get some serious speed up before negotiating Turn 1. It will work the car very hard so make sure everything is up to it. Fresh brake fluid would be a good start.

So, Graham, shall I book it or do I have to twist your arm more for a free drive of my car!!
I'm well up for this.

I'd have a maximum of about 115hp at the time but it's the drivers skill that counts at the end of the day

Anyone got any suggestions for decent tyres for me to use on Sprint-sized wheels?

Everyone seems to have their own opinion on tyres, with some saying the same brand are terrible, then the other people saying that they're fantastic.

I just need something that's good for, well, everything really

First thing that's going to happen when I get back is the distributor is going - got all the parts I need for Megajolt distributorless ignition, so should be an interesting experiment. The carbs will be staying for a while, then alternatives will be hunted down. Have to make myself happy with the car as is first, before I start hacking it about even more
