I wanted to ask if I can get some info on why my sprint now and again emits blue exhaust smoke. I just returned from a triumph run into the US and did 2000km and used no oil and no one complain of any smoke following me. It only happens now and again at traffic lights or having to wait at the border back into canada
Blue smoke
Sounds like valve guides/stem seals. However, before you rip the engine to bits, check your servo/master cyl seals. You would only need a very small amount of oil down the valve stem to cause blue smoke. The reason you only get the blue smoke on idle is because the throttle butterflies are closed & there is a greater vacuumn in the inlet tract therefor drawing a small amount of oil down the guide.

Re: Blue smoke
Thanks I will check that out first as that is easier than taking the engine apart.
Re: Blue smoke
if it is the guides you'll get quite a bit on over run, drive behind your car whilst someone else is driving and get them to slow down through the gears
