tax for a day??
Ok Adam, you have three options here:

Option A : Insure the Car, MOT is already there you said, Tax the car for six months, when you get home, return the tax disc and declare SORN, claim 5 months tax back.

Option B : Trailer the car back, and don't bother taxing or insuring it.

Option C : Other ideas that will get you into trouble with the Law.

Re: tax for a day??
So if we tax it for 6 months and return the tax disc the next day we'll only get 5 months back?

Re: tax for a day??
Yup. But given the slightly dodgy bodywork it would probably be worth leaving the tax on it for one month less one day in case you need to drive it somewhere for welding.

Re: tax for a day??
I've driven a car home on the day we bought it without tax because it was a Saturday afternoon and the Post Offices were closed. I was actually stopped! but as I explained it had been an impulse purchase and it was actually impossible to tax it until the Monday I was let off with a 7 day wonder to produce documents at a nominated station. I was driving it third party as 'my mate with me' had bought and therefore owned it and my fully comp policy covered me for cars I did not own but had permission to drive. The car was taxed the following Monday.
Is it the red 1300 then?
Re: tax for a day??
it is indeed. My mate has to talk his parents in to it at the moment. I mentioned the flyer and they said there ok with £70 <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">

on another note:
Adam, the drivers door Al gave me on sunday has a black mirror on it....are you still looking for one?

tax
I drove the 1500 home on day of purchase with 2 yr old tax disc, passed a few cops but no problem, new owner had to pay £19 to tax it at dvla cos had no logbook (car is duty exempt)
If you get stopped on the way home just say you couldn't txax it cos you forgot to take your insurance when you bought the car, get a dated receipt from owner to proof you jusst purchased it.
Re: tax
Cheers Rich but it was the passenger side I was after.

I tryed but my mates folks wouldn't allow him to have the car. But in that case I may become Adam 3 Dolly's <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
My understanding...
of the statutory defence is that as long as it booked in for an MoT it can be driven to the test station. Doesnt say anything about having an MoT already...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
Not sure if there is a mileage issue with this one though Jon. I have heard (so can't guarentee how true it is) that there is a 50 mile limit between MOT station and where car is.
Best chat to the MOT people (computerised now, BIG BROTHER is watching!)your insurance company or the boys in blue to clarrify where you stand.
Good luck Al W

English Law...
...a principle tenet is 'reasonableness'.

Much remains undefined and relies on this principle; It is reasonable to expect the MOT test to be taken in reasonable proximity to the cars location...etc, Equally it would be unreasonable to insist the nearest station is used.

I would have thought using a station beyond the next town would be unreasonable defence

Re: Road tax
Also, consider no MOT or tax is one thing, but each illegal tyre is 3 points! Driving a defective car can also land you in a lot of trouble; the fact it shouldn't be on the road in the first place will compound the trouble...
