Hi guys

Need to sort out the wifes 1997 Laguna 2.2td tommorow but don't know much about starters

When left over night it will not start the next day

Turn the key and get two auidible clicks then nothing
Battery charge is good/lights etc good
After some serious rocking about of the car and wiggling of wires combined with many attemps at tuning the key it starts and will start every time for the rest of the day
(Not convinced the rocking and wiggling have anything to do with getting it going but it gives me somthing to do while it starts)

Don't even know were the starter motor is yet I can't see a thing from up top and the under side has a plastic cover tray

Any ideas befor I look Is best just to buy a new starter?
or is it likely to be a wiring problem

The sooner I sort this the sooner I can make a start on the Sprint

Regards Richard
Laguna...
like all French cars have a design life of 5 years....When they are older you have to replace one major item a month....its your starters turn.
Even the petrol starter is under specced for the car so goodness knows what the diesel will be like. You can get at it from underneath and its not too bad if you have a 3/8 drive longish extension and a 16 mil socket. My mates petrol L reg 1.8 is on his 3rd starter....crap at 75 quid a pop!. My dollies are all on their originals bar one and some of them are over 30...
Re: Laguna...
check the battery to starter live wire (red) you can follow this down to the starter motor (common problem on lagunas and megrains) try hitting starter solonoid with a long bar as hammer wont reach .if you have the twist on battery connection change this for a bolt on type
As said starters are a problem on these cars but battery conections are the main cause.
