A family heir loom is this book circa 1978 an illistrated handbook full of wisdom such as dont tow your car without the ignition key in. leaks only get worse not better all cars have a dipstick which is usually halfway down one side of the engine make sure the roof rack is really securly mounted
And a handy guide on how to set the headlight beam using a your garage wall.
Oh and make sure the windows are closed when going though the car wash.
How would you have suvived the 70's without it<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
I know someone who was in a serious accident when an AA man towed her without telling her to put the key in the ignition. She turned to pull out of the layby they were in and carried on turning across the road, unable to stop because the engine wasn't running and she was being towed, before being hit by someone coming the other way at about 50mph. Driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but luckily nobody suffered any lasting injuries. Gotta be careful though and don't assume anybody knows how to do anything.
bank robbers

someone should have let an idiot bank robber up here read that guide. He escaped in a car but decided he wanted to get out and start running so while doing about 30mph he switched the ignition off while trying to negociate a bend. Needless to say the steering lock came on and he crashed into a lamp post. Unfortunately for him he ended up both in hospital and behind bars.

Another Dolomite owning friend of mine used to switch his engine off and coast up his parents drive, supposedly to let the engine cool off. The drive runs parallel to the road and it is a quick left-right to get onto it. One night he turned the key too far and on came the steering lock, turning the left-right into a left and a lot more left. He just missed the corner of the garage and ended up on top of a giant rhubarb bush, suffering from a bent rack and a very red face!
