Re: ^^
Thanks Adam and Justyn for sorting out the pics.

These were taken just outside the compound where the imported vehicles are stored. the bottom one is of Noel (another ex-pat), the owner of the bus and the top one has Noels daughter upstairs and me in the drivers seat.

as you can see there's a bit of work to be done to sort out the top to make it look presentable.

cheers
Buses
You've all done it now!!
On soapbox with anorak firmly zipped up!
Summer Holiday wasn't an RM it was an RT.
RM's are semi auto or auto, from what I recall if you leave the gear selector in 4th it will act as a straight auto, or you can manually select 1 to 4.
The RM wasn't a fully integral bus, these didn't come along until the Leyland National/Metro Scania, although Leyland had produced the Olympic in conjunction with MCW in the 502/60s. RM's were regularly separated from their chassis as they went through Aldenham works indeed most chassis didn't receive the same body back after overhaul.
Jonners you can have a silver star as you are nearly right, the provincial equivalent to the RT was the AEC Regent III.
Before you ask, no I'm not a spotter, I hate modern buses, they have no character and even less comfort!, I just appreciate rateable forms of transport. Road or Rail I'm not fussy.
And the best bus of all time?
BRISTOL RELL6L
I'm going now before they come to lock me up<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">
Ha...
anpther closet bus Anorak...

Yes I read my post again and spotted the typo...The RT is indeed a regent 3 or III outside town...
I couldnt remember the RTL Titan model number though.
We had Titans in southampton to replace the Guy Arabs. I think they were Titan V with Park Royal 56 seat high bridge coachwork.
I use to prefer the BAT group (Hants and Dorset) buses which were of course all Bristol ECW buses. They were more upmarket somehow with nice green leather seats.
I remember fondly the old side top aisle low bridge KS6B's and the odd KSW's with various Gardner or Bristol engines. Then the Lodekkas began to replace them and I really liked the last 70 seat FLF6 with the semi auto pneumo cyclic gearbox. Of course Bus grant killed these all off by only subsidising one man buses...all the interesting AEC bridgemasters, Leyland PD3s and Bristols got dumped for the boring old Atlantean. Snore. Bristol tried a bit with the VR but seemd to loose out when BET and BAT merged somehow.

My favourite...?
I like the RELL too but in ECW coach form and Royal Blue livery...
Double decker would have to be the ECW bodied FLF. I love the 3 back windows. I liked Southdowns PD3's as well.

Anorak well and truly back in the cupboard.
Re: Anorak...
ian,i did know all that but im not brave enough to admit it here<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"> . But ive got to say my choice of bus for racing around housing estates and scaring the old dears would be the Bristol VR.Very smooth and quick once youve got the hang of the semi auto box.
Im off to stick my head in the oven now.
If you've got it...
Flaunt it....
I'm not ashamed of things I know...knowledge is power!

Back to the buses....now wasnt the routemaster semi chassisless? I thought the rear part of the bus was sort of monocoque/integral or whatever you would call it.
isn't thats how the floor is so low...? I'll bow to the more knowledgable here as being provincial I'm not an expert.

Also think the last lot of RT's had the semi auto box. I'm certain I went in one once so equipped...when I was...wait for it...plane spotting at Heathrow. Aaaargh!

Our Soton corp 70 seat Regent V's did have....last decent buses we had before the atlanteans took over.

Ha...how sad is this. I can even remember the Reg Nos...

Wish my memory was as good at useful stuff...

BOAC VC10's anybody?
chassis
Not sure of the underneath set up as i prefer driving rather then getting my anorak dirty by climbing under them. Some RTs were semiauto , some auto, i think depending on who done the boxes as there were a few makes.
That
As for reg. no's i couldn't even tell you the ones i drive every day let alone the ones from my school days
Were you in southampton when the floating bridge was in use?(under the now itchen toll bridge)

Sure was....
That was one of my routes home form school....
It was quite fun when the tide was running out and a strong north wind....
You could end up as far down the Itchen as opposite the Thorneycrofts slipway at mid river.

I liked the old steam funnel ones with the exposed cable wheels..they used to keep one as a spare.

Think one is still used as a disco...and the Itchen bridge toll is outrageous. I still make a point of driving round it when I'm down there...and Bristol VR's are cool...(any Bristol is cool) but a bit after my bus interested times...
Re: Sure was....
when the toll bridge was built soton city council said they would only charge for 2 years after which folks living in woolston ect would get a free pass, still charging them full rate. next time you are down give me a shout.
I have some funny storys about people trying to use the floating bridge in the last couple of years!
BOAC VC 10's!
Used to work on the Super VC10's Ex BOAC converted to tankers, fantastic aircraft apart from the positioning of the brake control valve, When faulty this little darling gives about 9 different systems problems!
Of course its in the easiest place to get to (1 arms length away through a hatch in the left hand undercarriage bay) and work on, NOT!

Oh the memories of baking in the Middle east/freezing in Norway trapped up there performing one handed wirelocking covered in oil! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
