Question about the ST shield

#1 Post by LewisK » Fri Feb 17, 2006 7:58 pm

This is a right strange one - but does anyone know if anyone still holds the rights to this? Just I was considering using, and selling it, on a Tshirt but thought I best ask first <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

If the answer is unknown, then I probably won't use it. Or I might, who knows - I doubt anyone would pick up on it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Crazy! I mean like so many positive waves, we can't lose! You're on!

BMW hold the rights to most of the Rover/BMC/BL names and logos. This was discussed at several of the Standard-Triumph Forum meetings. Without digging out the minutes to all the meetings, from what I recall you must obtain permission from BMW before using any of the logos for commercial purposes.

I believe that any BL trademark passed through MG Rover and seeing the German invasion realised it was not marketable left it to Rover and hence is now owned by the Chinese. Still they copy our goods all the time so fear not produce as many as you like. BMW own the Dolomite name so they must value it.
To be honest, it would only be a minute quantity anyway, more 1-offs ....if there was any problem I wouldn't have a problem quietly putting them back on the shelf <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Ta <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Crazy! I mean like so many positive waves, we can't lose! You're on!

In both mandarin chinese (not sure about the other dialects) and japanese the words for learn and copy are the same. This is why they have no compunction about copyright...unless it suits them!
I recall someone else did a few t-shirts with this emblazoned a while ago; ebay abounds with stuff with it on...
