TR7 engine

#1 Post by 2F45T4U » Mon Mar 06, 2006 1:25 pm

I'm putting a tr7 slant in my dolly 1850. What happens about the flywheel? Which do I use with the standard 1850 box? How do you make them lighter <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
I think it will need to be the TR7 flywheel, as otherwise the starter motor on the TR7 engine won't work.

Your choice....

You can use either...
If you use the TR7 one it will foul on the Dolly end plate retaining bolts. So you have 2 options...
Modify the TR7 end plate so that the clutch slave mounting is removed by sawing it off and welding up the remaining bit of the hole. Your dolly one provides a template. I think the other bell housing bolts all line up.

Or modify the Dolly end plate to use the recessed countersunk set screws that the TR7 uses. Just need a suitable countsink drill bit and pillar drill. Local machine shop should oblige if you clearly mark up the holes and give them one of your countersunk cross head set screws.

Method 3:
Just use the dolly end plate and flywheel...

The ring gear isnt an issue with the dolly starter. Ive used both.

I wouldnt bother lightening the flywheel if you want a sensible idle....but the 1850 flywheel is slightly lighter and still gives 800rpm.

I cant really tell the difference between my 2 cars....
If you use the 1850 one you can use the 1850 clutch and you can just use the 1850 starter.

I think. I haven`t seen my TR7 engine for a while...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

Clutch issues....

You need the right spline count for your gearbox input shaft...The 4 speed TR7 single rail is the same as a later single rail dolly 1850 like Adams. The 5 speeder I'm not so sure....may be the same as sprint or 3 railer...

The outer clutch cover is the same....
Ooooh can't wait to get it fitted... I've truly had enough of my current engine <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Whats your TR7 dolly like to drive Jonners? More like a normal 1850 or Sprint?
But you would learn far more in sorting out your current setup. You really arent far away and not much is wrong.

Just persevere and get what you have running right first.
