Road Rage....

#1 Post by Jon Tilson » Wed Mar 08, 2006 1:48 pm

A 308 near hampton court...rainy evening....

Total ape up my arse end in a VR6 scirroco with too many lights. 30 limit descending to a particularly silly 20....
As he's too close I slow down to the posted numbers...then signal to turn right. He's already trying to overtake as I do so...ha...I'll just do as I'm signalling.

Predictably I get lots of horn and more lights and more tail gaiting. Good...looks like he got the message then.

Being an ornery sort of driver I then prevent him overtaking...but not in a dangerous manner...for the next half mile or so...slow down for narrow gaps...speed up enough in the open bits...you know the sort of thing.

Come to a set of lights and I've had enough...of his horn, racing engine, lunging maneuvres etc...

Its time to exchange words.

Why did I bother? He didnt seem at all in the mood to listen to my thoughts on what the highway code says about courtesy, safety, tailgating, speed limits, overtaking a vehicle clearly signalling to turn right etc etc.

Why is it so important to some people that they'd risk their lives, property and other peoples too just to cut a few seconds off a journey...? Or not....they only wait longer at the next red light!

I'm soooo tempted to start keeping a water pistol full of old brake fluid handy for future such occasions...about every 6 months on my recent experience.

Any more ideas for some pleasing punitive devices that could be used in such a situation? I was thinking if rigging up a screen washer bottle in the boot...switch and a couple of nozzles on the rear bumper. Then I wouldnt have to even get out in future...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
I came across the most (no stereotyping mind) idiotic woman driver ever a month or two back.

Coming out of the village en route to work, there's a nice long hill, bout half a mile long on a straight, a few bends then I hit the A5 - this is usually my point to wind the car up to 60 so it's nice and warm before I head out on the M-ways.

Anyway, I come out of the village doing ~25mph, past the blind corner, past the 60 sign onto the straight and come across a KA doing, oof, maybe 30.

However, the road's clear ahead so I signal, roll on some speed and move out to pass the KA. However, as I draw level the idiotic bint starts to accelerate hard, pulling her car level with my rear quater and preventing me pulling in, despite the fact I'm already indicating to pull back in.......

I could have accelerated and completed the manuvere but a) I didn't trust her, and b) there was traffic now coming the other way, so I had to drop back and sit there.

The real galling part though? For the rest of the time I was stuck behind her she sat at 35mph. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

It's the only time I've ever convinced myself she might have got the idea if I pulled into her and put her in the wall <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

But I'm too nice for that <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o">

Mind you, that wasn't as dangerous as the Corsa driver who was doing 50 in a 70, blocking my overtaking, swerved into my lane and decided to test his brakes, fortunately there was a wide grass runoff instead of a barrier so I rumbled on that for a bit before hitting the tarmac again.

He was a total prat, and I let him know about it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

Not quite the same but.......

#4 Post by dollysteve » Wed Mar 08, 2006 3:46 pm

Last night I was driving home and the moron in front was tootling along just under 30 mph, clear well lit road, no traffic etc. I dropped down a gear and hung back a little until I was 100% sure it was safe to pass mr slow and then went, then, as I drew level with his rear bumper he started indicating and tried to barge me off the road, twat!!!!, not only could he have killed me but himself too. I had to jam on the brakes and duck back in. Why he did such a stupid manouver I will never know, he was driving 20 mph under the speed limit for goodness sake on straight, albeit wet stretch of road.

It could be that he was pulling out to go round a dead fox or something and didn't bother to check his mirrors.

Generally when people go that slow I like to give them a really wide berth since they tend to do other "erratic" things.

I unfortunately, have been driving articulated trucks for the last sixteen years(i hate it)! I see situations virtually every day of people trying to(what seems like)kill their families or themselves under my,or another trucks wheels. One particular favourite at the moment amoungst these so called drivers(who apparently love their families),is to pull into a gap in front of me,with no indication, only for the (ignorant and arrogant)driver to then brake for no reason whatsoever!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> Do these people honestly think that they are immune from injury or even death while they are wrapped up in their little tin boxes? I have seen the result of many serious accidents,(non involving me,i might add)and it is NOT nice,it plays with your mind for weeks.. As for revenge..my particular favourite is the pickaxe..one through the roof, one through the bonnet...job done...i had one last month,i got out the car(to have a polite word)on seeing me,and without a word exchanged,he promptly reversed back up the road at full speed!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Reg, I know what you mean. I regularly have to escort loads from my factory, sat in the tractor unit, and some of the things car drivers do are appalling.

I try to do my best by truck drivers (Keeping far enough back to see the mirrors, and avoiding sudden braking where possible if they are close behind) but I know lots of people aren't as considerate.

Well I was driving home last night in my mates VR6 (my car was in for a service) and there was this middle aged gentleman in front of me and the fellow just wouldn't get out of the way.

So I give him a friendly toot of the horn and a cheery flash to let him know I'm there and in a rush to my next brain surgery op (all in a days work!) but he wouldn't move over. I kept reminding him but his mirrors must have been maladjusted or something as he didnt see me to let me past. Hey ho, never mind eh!

I was most preturbed when the chap gave me a right talking too - I wonder if he kisses his mother with that mouth!!
I have a good manouvre for pratts who insist on driving up my ar5e with fog lights on.
I pull over and let them go.
True, I get annoyed at other road user's and their driving skill's or lack of them. But I am sure I too upset other road user's with my lack of skill's.
Point taken dudes.....

I suppose if it mattered enough to me to write about it on here then it mattered too much....

Best to let these mobile accidents just go and happen somewhere else.

It is nice though to be in something really big when the crunch becomes unavoidable...like the silly old git who overtook me in the Landy when there was clearly no room and tried to barge me over... I could either hit him or the innocent guy on my left. No brainer.

A Landy front bumper makes mincemeat of the side of a daewoo...Think I got both doors and the rear wing. Sweet.
I get it every day people seem to have a 'dont get stuck behind that bus' mentality, they dont relise how quick a modern bus can go from standstill to 50<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> .
Oh and dont tailgate bus cos the bus driver wont even feel it when you run up his rear (a cat run out in front of me officer)
The problem there arise from the fact the bus stops, driver is still sat down cos he holding the sterring wheel, the passengers who were busy chatting on mobiles are nowwindscreen splatter(on the inside).
But most of them are students so no loss there then.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
It's good to vent your spleen and doing it here rather than on the road is much safer. After all you don't know who is driving the car that cut you up and what their weapon of choice is!!!
Large adjustable (purely defensive) under the seat, that thankfully has only ever been used for it's intended purpose.
- Throwback from working in NI!
My top tips for driving, keep plenty of mints for chewing, have the children in the back (so your not tempted to swear!) leave plenty of space between you and the car infront (gap for the nutters) and if all else fails, stick some Led Zep on the MP3 player and nail it away from the idiots!!!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Mad Man

#14 Post by Hasbeen » Fri Mar 10, 2006 4:15 am

I was driving home from Brisbane [OZ] to my home, 60 miles out of town. I caught up to a bloke in a big V6, pottering along. In an area of 50, & 60 MPH limits, he was doing 40, to 50 MPH.
I was not in a hurry, & followed him at a moderate distance, but
over the next couple of miles he drifted into the dirt , & across the centre line quite a few times. I thought he may be drunk, but then I realised that he was having dinner. He had a drink in one hand, & food in the other.
On a nice, wide, long straight, I decided to pass, & get clear of him, but, when I tried, he floored his throttle.
I was driving my restored, & moderately worked, Triumph TR7, but, I was not sure I could get passed, so I dropped back in behind him.
He then went right off, slowing to 25 Mph, hitting his breaks, etc. I knew the next minor road on the left would get me home, by slightly longer route, so, not needing any of this rubbish, I took it.
3 miles up this road, he came tearing up behind me. I knew there was a nasty right hander up ahead, quick at 40 mph, because of heavy reverse camber on the exit.
I lead him into this at 50, & took an early apex, just to make it harder. I was a bit busy for a while, but when I had time to look, he was through the fence, & dropping, backwards, into a ditch.
I rang the cops, to tell them that the farmer had a fence to fix. We have had a few fatalities recently with city people not realising the danger of stock on the roads.
When I go to town now, I take my 275 BHP 4.6L TR8, & when I pass someone, they stay passed.
Is it just here, or do you have these idiots infesting your roads as well?
We don't have much trouble with traffic, or road rage out here. Our main problem is, that when you do get caught behind something slow, it'll probably be smelly as well.
the roads are full of morons, i reckon half the driving population should be re-tested.

personal circumstances and work mean that I cover a good 100mile per day average, and the stuff that I've seen day in day out just makes me wonder how some people ever actually get to where theyre going.

its the van people i like, 3 hairy arsed builders in the beaten up transit cutting you up, not letting you by etc etc, my favorite is pulling along side inside them, winding down the window, sticking arm right out and giving them the old slow moving fist, but emphasis on the slow, and laughing at them.

its just pure genius as everyone around can see exactly exactly what you're getting at, and the laughter is the ultimate wind up.

few other ideas - fit a concealed yoghurt squirter somewhere on the back of your car - its great, when targetted properly at the windscreen of the car behind, putting wipers on just smears it all over the screen. nice, if a bit james bond-like.

- get in front of the offending moron and empty your screen wash all over them, a great one for motorways and REALLY annoying.

of course, these practises could be considered dangerous and in conflict with certain articles of the highway code.

project orange - the longest rebuild project ever
project white - let the mission begin...
