Awful engine really. It would only return 27mpg on mixed town/motorway driving and that wasn't ragging it. I can get 22 from the Cerbera on the same sort of runs!
120+ in a Sprint

#33 Post by Mark Larmour » Sun Mar 19, 2006 5:48 am

I regularly see at least 120 in my Sprint on the way to work, and the thing isn't even stressing, only 3000rpm with lots more to go,........................................but I suppose it is a little easier if your speedo is in KPH.

I should also say that my race Sprint has been offically recorded at more than 140mph down Conrod Straight at Bathurst back in the early 1980's (before my ownership).

Not been over 180 kmph (113 mph) in the Dolomite (altough that was before it's Weber 45 conversion).
The fastest I saw was 250 kmph (156 mph) in an S-class Mercedes.

And once was a passenger in a Porsche 911 at 270 kmph (169mph).
...in for a pound.

may as well join in this bit of fun.

Have had the 1300FWD off the clock (100) downhill with a good run.

Other memorable occasions? Indicated 160 in an E type Jag. 170+ (needle arcing a bit) in the Ferrari Daytona.

The best reaction from other people was 127 (8500rpm) in my old Imp.

Have passengered my bruv in his old 360 Modena in Germany against a 911 Turbo and saw 190 on the clock. Porker receded slowly in mirror at that speed. Have an old smudge somewhere I think. We were then overtaken ourselves by one of those Brabus V12 E class Mercs, which are unrestricted and do just over 200. Driver was obviously ringing the last knockings out of it.

Brother and I haven't maxxed his new 430 yet....

Waaay outa my league :-)

I've never seen 127 out of my Sprint. I've never overtaken on the left some w##ker in a Mk 2 granny on the utterly empty M27 just after a fine June dawn many years ago. There cannot have only been the two of us in sight in either direction because I wasn't there. The fact that this tit would not accept his car was maxed at 115 and mine weren't and move out of the 3rd lane can't have got on my nerves because my nerves weren't there.

So all told I can't have caught the Le Mans ferry with seconds to spare.
What is it woth some people?
Do dolomites have a particularly annoying shape (actually this could have been the GT6 you werent driving that day couldnt it?)

I just find most people in London cant bear the thought of this scruffy old banger in front of them or behind them. They either have to burn me off (they usually cant) or sit on my arse ( I let them...they go in the back, they pay).
We need a bumper sticker....
"This may look an old heap but it goes just as fast as yours...the speed limit!"
"Dont bother! You will only be embarrassed!"
"You go in the back...you buy me a bumper. It will cost more than yours."
"Only idiots try and pass me. I have wandery steering."

Hmmm....

New thread anybody?

Someone else can start it. Ive done far too much work on here of late.
145 mph in a Volvo.

80 mph in the dolly.

92 mph in the Camper. This still makes me chuckle <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

124 mph in the Manta.

135 mph in my old Barchetta.

Where and when I will not say, too many old bill here!!!!

The volvo and barchetta are accurate, the others I guess you have to allow for gauging errors.

Maxxed

#40 Post by Carl » Tue Mar 21, 2006 10:27 pm

I had a go on the small track at MIRA some years ago in my P-reg Sprint. Totally standard, two up, managed an indicated ~127mph, about right I guess <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Quite annoying as my dad will 'cruise' at about 85 all day in his Toyota.

I've only seen 100 once in my life! That was in a mates fathers people carrier!
150 on the back of a bike is quite scary, especially an R1 as the pillion sits up so high. Quite difficult to tuck in without people thinking you are the only gay pillion in the village.

My first car was a 1.3s Fiesta V reg and that would screw up to 110. It was that pea green colour with thick white stripes down the side. NTL404V I salute you!
Scott, you mean the Fiesta kept going until the speedo read 110! Just like my 1100 would go up to 90, and yet I was still getting overtaken by loads of stuff on the motorway. Funny how when my Sprint's speedo reads 90, hardly anything comes by.
Hmm, various bikes 125 plus. Jag 4.0 - indicated 138 on a private road in response to a muppet tailgating me in some kind of small Jap GiT (NOT anywhere near the M25, oh no, no, no).

Sierra 1.6L - indicated 120. Toledo - speedo needle at end of travel whilst chasing a 'new' XR3 ?1983.

90 something or other in my Mums bog standard Mini Clubman estate - many, many years ago.

The above statements are a complete figment of my imagination and bear no relation to reality in any way, shape or form, officer.
