Paypal Scam

Just had this one, can't do links so I'll give you all as much info as possible.<br>

You get an email confirming buying something from 'Astalavista GMBh' of the USA (Kind of ironic!)<br>
for around $39 US.<br>
<br>
If you think this is an error and follow the links, it asks you for your paypal log on and bank details.<br>
<br>
I queried the wife first, wondering what crap she had bought then logged on to my paypal account through eBay to confirm no such transaction had been completed. <br>
I then forwarded the 'spoof' email to them and they confirmed it was under investigation.<br>
<br>
Not bad for a computer biff!<br>

I get quite a few spoof emails from ebay or paypal. If it says anything in the email about loging on using a link in the email, you know it's spoof. Just forward to spoof@ebay.co.uk & then delete it.

I've just had an email which looks exactly like the ones you get when someone sends you an ebay message about an item for sale.<br>

It looks very authentic & has come from the US asking me if my item is still for sale <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START >D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/grin.gif ALT=" >D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> I'm not selling anything at the moment which drew my attention to it. The only giveaway I can see is that it doesn't contain the item number at the top, hence, I didn't click on anything & forwarded it to ebay.

Earlier this week I had another type of scam in my mailbox.<br>
<br>
A Mrs. Helen Harris from the UK wanted to buy the Xbox I had for sale on a free ads website.<br>
She would send me a postal money order and I had to send the Xbox within 24 hours to an adress in Nigeria.<br>
<br>
I mailed them a few times just make them lose time and let them send the money order to a fake adress and then told them to bugger off.<br>
<br>
Didn't hear from them again.<br>

Be very suspicious of any buyers from Nigeria on E-bay.<br>

A Nigerian buyer won one of my auctions. They kept e-mailing me asking me for my details (I think they were trying to weedle my bank details out of me). I didn't provide them.<br>
<br>
I had an e-mail from what appeared to be a legitimate money transfer company, stating that a payment would be sent to me once the package had been collected from my address!<br>
<br>
The buyer was later left negative feedback by another seller where they had tried exactly the same scam.

I keep buying watches from somewhere in California I think. At least that's what the Paypal email says, except for some reason Paypal are sending them to my Ebay mail account, not my Paypal one.<br>

Odd that, almost makes me think it's a scam...<br>

I have to laugh at the phishing ones for bank details - The mock up of a bank login screen, with a warning about using fake account numbers being a criminal offence...

I've had 2 e-mails purporting to be from Paypal and eBay saying they would suspend my account if I didn't confirm my details, and they used all sorts of legitimate jargon and references so it looks very authentic. Just to say "Watch Out!" - they are getting very VERY sneaky!

I used to have RC cars, made by a company called Traxxas. I sold them long ago so hadn't been on there web site for ages. Decided to check it out the other day see whats new. I remeber checking out the engines they'd made for them. That was the end of that.<br>

Its got all the jargon about safety that goes with a normal pay pal email but thats easy to copy. The link however leads to the pay pal site where it asks you to enter your password, and only that! No email address or nothing. <br>
<br>
What I think has happend is somehow spyware has been watching what sites I've been going on, managed to pick up my dads email address and then sent us this email to try and get my dads password out of him. <br>

They use things called search-bots or something. It's a marketing tool really but I can see how that could be manipulated. Clever gits hey!<br>
