I know about the x type, I know but its a Saloon and for my budget they are high milers!! we have persevered with the A4 and it just doesnt work when you want ot go away for a few nights.

Still a very nice car though even if the back seats are terrible - I'd consider an X type estate if you could find one for under £7K and 50,000ish miles.

Mazda 6, hmmmm. A bit dull but not a bad car. Worth thinking about.
Dug a bit deeper on the Mazda 6. The 1.8's and 2.0's whilst decent cars arent exactly fast. The rare 2.3 sport is a bit more like it (0-60 in 8.7, top 133mph) though still knowhere near as quick or economical as the Octavia. I driven a diesel powered 6 and apart from being an oil burner it was nice car.

Of course they have just brought out the 2.3 turbo MPS which is a very nice car but at £24K no chance.

Trouble is most are ex fleet = high mileage.

Still the 2.3 sport is a serious contender as back up in case I don't enjoy driving the Octavia.
Ahhh. Let me introduce you to the wonders of a roof-box. Or aren't you alluding to lack of luggage space?
Its not just luggage, its baby stuff + dog + ability to load up stuff at B&Q (impossible in the A4 - strangely amusing in the smart with the roof down!)

A roof box? Might as well get an MPV and a caravan. Nooooooooooo! I'm still too young!

I suppose I could solve all my problems by getting a boot mounted luggage rack for the roadster for the baby seat. Roof box for the dog and a small trailer for the push chair.

Now that would look nice.

What about....

#52 Post by Jon Tilson » Sun Apr 23, 2006 12:30 am

that swedish aeroplane company?

The 9-3 is quite a nice car and some natty turbo versions are about. I did a head job on a local T plater and it seemed okay to work on. Not good on rear vision though...

The X-type rear seats drop down...

4wd and 225 bhp....
Oh I just don't bloody know. I hate all sensible cars but I still think the Skoda is the best overall package for the money.

Maybe I'll advertised the roadster for £30K and plead ignorance to the Missus why it mysteriously wont sell.
This one looks interesting apart from the mileage and should have been very well maintained.
Motherwell??? That's five hours from here...probably 6.5 from you without hold ups. Don't omit to factor in a day of your time, five hundred miles on the clock and the costs of getting there and back else a bargain may tarnish rather quickly!!

Jons laws of car buying....and selling.

When you have a car for sale someone puts a better one on than yours for less money.

If you think you can sell car one after you've bought car two you will still have car one next year. And maybe cars three and four too.

After you've sold the car at less than you wanted for it ten keen punters appear with cash in hand.

After you've bought a car, a better one with lower mileage and better spec in the colour you really wanted will appear for sale cheaper and on your doorstep, even if you dont look in the ads.

A car will always cost more to insure and need more work than you originally estimated.

Your mates...especially those on here...are very good at spending your money for you...

Your mates always buy better than you did.

Your mates will always rubbish your purchase.

So go forth and enjoy it...

Nice one Mr T!

Getting a car from Motherwell doesnt bother me. £25 sleazyjet flight on a Sunday, 5 hour drive home to get used to the car and pop into Aluns for a chat and a cuppa ! I can take a mate and share the driving and have a laugh at the same time.

Seeing as at the moment I'm have to drive the 250mile round trip to Plymouth every other week and soon it might be once a month to Penzance for a new £12m college I'm working on, the effect a few more miles has on the car is neglible. I'm budgeting £100 travel costs to collect depends on how the auction goes. My only concern is their ebay history which I have overcome by agreeing a very small deposit to secure.

The same car from our local Skoda dealer would probably be £8.5 to £9K. I know it wont reach that on ebay and location will play a factor too. There is also a Black one in southampton with £33K on the clock - much nearer to home but the car doesnt look quite so good.

Our neighbour has a top-of-the-line turbo' 9-3...and it's absolutely horrible.

It's not a scratch on our H-plate 9000 2.0N/A. The interior is horrible, boring, uninteresting and uncomfortable, its uninspiring and he hates it.

And so do I. Smells of dog too, but that's not the cars fault
I'm not a big fan of Saabs I must admit. No real thing against them, just not my thing.

Especially since they are based on Vauxhalls. Understeer city here we come!
