The Roadster went today Very sad to see it go but its time to be responsible. Lost 40% of its value in 2 years - as someone who's never had a brand new car I find that difficult to swallow. Thank god it wasn't my money!

The new owner is a deserving one though - he passed his test in a Dolomite Sprint!

Please join me in the wearing of black armbands.

And now that Smart are just putting the final 300 for sale (imaginatively called 'finale') we may never see their like again.

Didn't bother with the Silver Skoda, I got put off by some self bidding and I cant be arsed to go to Glasgow. and every bugger has silver cars.

Having a look at the black 32K mile 02 VRS Monday off ebay which if its as described, is mine. Located in Southampton. Much easier and the right colour!

They must be taking the mick

Thats just not right or maybe they are ripping customers off!

The same mechanical set up is common to so many models the parts are very reasonable. Thats one of the car's biggest selling points.

Just checked GSFcarparts - £132 for a clutch kit for a 1.8T Octavia, same price for the mechanically identical Audi TT.

Even the notorious failing coils are only £21,50 each although if you have a car with one of the faulty batches they will be replaced FOC by Skoda as they are open about the problem.

These cars are no more costly than any other modern motor, and probably a lot cheaper than many equivalents.

Stop all the scaremongering, look at the reviews on peachorlemon.co.uk or on the parkers website, then compare to something like a Mondeo or Vectra. The majority of owners comments are extremely positive.

Besides my A4 is still on its original clutch - 130,000 miles and still perfect.

maybe maybe not

#65 Post by george » Sun Apr 30, 2006 9:29 pm

it does say they come assembled with flywheel but no release brg
so i asume they are modular type clutches which are riveted to the flywheel (chrysler do this on pt, neon & voyager) so it uses an auto type flywheel
heres the list of nos eng codes ?
agu, arx, arz, aum, avq from 150 hp -180 hp maybe you can shed a bit of light onto it i just read it as it appeared on the site

I think thats the 4wd versions. (150BHP 1.8T).

The VRS is an AUQ engine. I had a look on eurocarparts.com and for the VRS its listed as part 641441580 for £144.95

Makes a bit more sense I suppose.

Gone for it!!

#68 Post by SMIFTER » Sun May 07, 2006 10:47 pm

Well I've taken the plunge, nothing could sway my choice of car so a nice black Octavia VRS with 32K on the clock is now sitting on my driveway. Been playing with it this evening - Sorry I havent called you back Mart!

As for how it drives? Surprise surprise its just like a Mk4 Golf!! Not the nimblest of motors but refined and competent. Importantly the boot is huge and its quite comfy and quiet despite being quite firmly sprung and having 17" wheels. Quite chuckable for a Mondeo sized car but its not a match for my old 306 for larking about in.

Oh and its rather fast. A bit tardy from a standstill (a shade under 8secs to 60 isnt that spectacular for a car that max's out at 146) but once your moving and the turbo is on boost it makes the 2.6 Audi feel like a wet lettuce when your well into 3 figure speeds on short B road straights.

I think I'll have to stick a brick under the throttle pedal!

I timed my car at 13 seconds to 60 today, I thought that was fast
