Bon Voyage
In 4 months time (with all things being equal), myself, Wife and Kids will be living here.

Serviced by its international airport....

And its own golf course!

Some of you know that I have had a few problems shall we say. As a family, we decided that we needed a real break from the routine and this was the best we could come up with. I'm looking at the costs of shipping a Dolomite out there (not the racer) as I'm sure it will be the only one in the country. I'll send my reports into DM as hopefully I can be the self apponted area rep for Kazaksthan. Probably the biggest area as its 5 times the size of Texas!

I'll be using the CARS camping weekend as a bit of a goodbye for now party on July 2nd, so get yourself along and I'll buy you a bottle of that awful french beer in the stubby bottles!

Spasibe.
Wow..
At least your wipers will be the right way round.

Certainly looks like an interesting place to live. Without being too nosey (and i know mine is big), are you moving out there with some kind of work, or, as you say, a complete break?

So, where do I sign for your motor

You've chosen an excellent place for your sending off. Burning rubber, clutches, piston rings and N20, all in one glorious joyride down the quarter, overflown by choppers and surrounded by petrol heads
Re: Bon Voyage
Thanks Richie and Lewis.

My wife teaches secondary Science and Maths and has been offred a job at one of the International schools. I'll be doing some voluntary work with the school and kindergarten where my youngest will be. Once we are setlled I'll look into doing something that's paid but to be honest, we will live like Kings out there on what Sheryl's paid alone.

I still have issues to address in this country so will have to return from time to time.

A am not selling the racer! I want to come back during the spring or summer breaks and do a few races before going back but we shall just have to wait and see how it pans out.
Sorry to hear you're leaving Scott, hope everything turns out ok. Looks a nice place.
Re: Bon Voyage
Scott,

Flat rate on cars over 7 years old for import into Kazakhstan is 15%, according to the EU's database. I'd suggest airfreighting any car could be the cheapest way to Almaty as it's so far from the sea, but budget for somewhere around £1.70 per kilo. I can let you have the names of some good companies who we use here at work who might be able to help you, or at least know someone who could.

Best of luck with it in any case. Our sales team say it's a very interesting place.

Oh Scott, you and your family (including Dollys) will be missed. So sorry you are going but on the otherhand, looks pretty nice there and bet the climate is a bit warmer. You may be needing some of these -

I do hope you will still be checking in on the board to put the world to rights and to offer your pearls on Dollys?

I am almost on the verge of being shocked that a certain Stourbridge Triumph person hasn't asked to buy your super-duper trailer.

Kazakhstan? Say hello to Borat if you bump into him!

Susie

PS, almost forgot the most important thing - what is happening to your menagerie?
Re: :(
I have an aloof cat that could do with re-homing. The horse is going to be on loan to a friend. The dog is dead, the two rabbits-again rehoming I would think. All the reptiles are past tense if you see what I mean!

The trailer is borrowed from a friend as my nice Brenderup was nicked last year. I'm afraid that won't be up for sale. The stag will be staying here as our transport for when we return. The white Dolly 1850 that I donated to the club will have to be relocated or sold on (proceeds to the club). The Cerbera will have to be sold (boo-hiss!), The Nissan Patrol will have to be sold as well. Ebay will be seeing some action soon.

I'll of course keep up with the board and keep in touch.

Dave. We will be in Astana so do you know if people air-freight to their direct? Almaty is in the very south of the country. Appreciate your input on this as I don't have a clue. I assume their would be other fees to pay than the direct shipping cost and the import tax?

Apologies if I have missed any other questions!
Re: :(
Ooh now that really is getting away from it all. I would think that it would be a fair bit more pricey to get something airfreighted there, as flights are nowhere near as regular, and would have to transfer somewhere as there isn't a direct flight from the UK. I'll have an ask of my complicated freight man and see what he thinks would be the best way.
Re: :(
If you have ever seen the series "The long way round" with Ewan Macgregor and Charlie Boorman you might reconsider the road-trip idea! The roads outside the cities are pretty tough and travelling through the Ukraine can be a bit lawless.
A typical road from what I can make out.

Apparently you can buy a new Chrysler Niva (whatever that is) for $11000 or a new Russian car from $3000! It might end up being the most economic way of doing it. I'd still be iinterested Dave although it sounds like shipping could be upwards of 3k.
