Performance Calculator

#1 Post by SMIFTER » Wed May 10, 2006 10:46 pm

I know its just a bit of fun, but surprisingly accurate on the cars I've tested!

Performance Calculator

My old Roadster - 80BHP, rwd, 790kg, 0-60=9.98s (10.9s)
My A4 - 150BHP,fwd,1300kg, 0-60=8.91s (8.5s)
Std Sprint, 127bhp,rwd,1100kg 0-60=8.82s (8.7s)
My Octy VRS, 180bhp,fwd,1350kg, 0-60=7.81s(7.9s)

All reasonably accurate! (official figures in brackets)

Now with my predicted heavily stripped out and lightened XE powered Sprint with the Nitrous on.

210bhp, rwd, 900kg, 0-60 = 4.81

Sounds like motivation to me!!
My Track Sprint = 170 bhp, RWD, 1000kg = 0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.22 Bring it on!!

S2000 = 240bhp, RWD, 1200kg = 0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.43 Not far out, a bit closer to 6 secs. me thinks!

I know they're "tongue in cheek" figures, but how can they calculate the 0-60 with the three bits of info entered...they can't!

From the site

Quote:
All formulas were designed with trial and error using research from proven road tests in magazines, this covered various different levels of cars that were used as a basis for setting the formulas, for example, figures from Hot Hatches like the Clio 172, to Supercars like the McLaren F1 were used as a guide. Also results from official modified car events were used as a guide when allowing for very high BHP per ton.

Also look at the calculated tables. Pretty accurate stuff.

The only one that was miles out was my old roadster - thats because the semi auto box has 2 additional gear changes to make compared to say my VRS!

How much will my dolly weigh without a driver? Thats less than a 1000 kilo isnt it?

Weighing a 1000 kilo and with 110 hp it should do 60 in 9.23 seconds. That will keep up with if not beat a Saxo VTR, that is what I want! A chav beater

110hp is easy enough isn't it? Its/was 105hp in the TR7 but with; more restrictive zorst manifold, sports pipe, hi flow air filters, lightend flywheel (1850 one is a good kilo or 2 lighter) and fast road cam shaft (apparant 8-10hp) oh and 60,000 miles I should get myself in to 110hp yer?

i cant remember the exact weight of a Dolly - I think its in the 1100 to 1200 kg bracket.

Getting down to 1000kgs is possible but requires dedication. How much to you like heating, music and back seats?

110bhp with a TR7 lump should be easy enough provided its in decent condition to start with.
I make that 1031 kg with all the fluids full + Adam ( I reckon about 70 kg max) Call it 1100 kg including driver. you might weigh more Adam, but you probably don't drive round with the tank full do you.
These 'calculators' are only taking into consideration the basics though - how well you can actually put that power down, and how much is lost between crank and rear wheels, is just assumed.

Now, in some cases, the assumption is not far off the real figure, but when things start changing it goes way off!

And I always though Sprints were heavy cars!

Based on that I reckon I might even be able to get mine down to sub 850 kilos with judicious use of a hole saw as the XE lump/Manta gearbox is a good third lighter than a Sprint engine and box.

Moosehunters was 871kgs I think (no overdrive).

I Thought the kerb weight for a sprint was 1016kgs. I believe that's in the workshop manual.
