Thoughts please....

Renault V6, my current car, wife driving it, conks out. Warrenty with place that we bought (02 plate second hand). Call AA, he's never seen one before (two seats, mid engined) hasn't got a clue. Get it down to the starter motors had it. Anyway, bump the car off so we can take it to the garage (couldn't be bothered to wait an hour and a half to have it transported and i'm playing football tonight). Get it there, AA chap gives me his version of problems (guesses) and writes some details with recorded mileage. Next day, friend rings... just seen your car going like the clappers down so and so (puzzled, cars F#*ked). Rings garage for a progress report..."sorry sir your cars not been looked at yet". Mmmmmm well, I've just been told that its flying down so and so street,...silence, "excuse me sir I'll just check with the service department", could feel her embarassment over the phone!. Anyway filled full of horsemanure and i'm <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> . Two weeks they had the car, i'm ringing up for progress reports, filled full of horse manure. Anyway to cut a long story short, i've had no car for two weeks, dolly in restoration, my car has been returned with oily marks, mucky boot marks, scratched WITH SIXTEEN MILES on the bloody clock<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> Tw#ts have been joyriding in it. Asked for an explanation, couldn't give me one. Now i understand a test drive to see if they've rectified the problem, so say a mile or two, but SIXTEEN<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> . Is this a TWOC (taken without consent)????

and copy to Renault UK saying you want a full explanation for the 16 miles on the clock and the names of drivers involved because of the risk of subsequent prosecutions based on your license number and speed cameras. Say you will consider reporting this to your local chief constable so the driver can be prosecuted for driving without your consent and therefore without insurance, unless the explanantion is satisfactory.
What if this twat had totalled your car and killed someone in the process? Its got to be stopped. If he gets away with it now he will again.
You want a full valet at least FOC.
did he take it to an aa approved garage of your choice ?
if not i would think a letter to the aa would be in order
the mls are a joke for a 'starter related repair' yes in the past iv'e had cars with problems that only manifest themselves after about 50 mls or so
had to road test for that specific problem but with the owners full consent as jon said you dont really know what speed it's been driven at so you could well be reciving a speeding ticket through your door try explaining to the magistrates 'it wasn't me guv' i'd go down the route of reporting it to the police just to cover your own ar**

hmmmm

i had a bit of a run in not long ago with my local renault dealer too, bunch of ignorant monkeys.

jonners got the right idea, but address your letter FAO "The Dealer Principal", who will be the top man on site there. the service mgr is nothing more than a middle management monkey who will probably bin your letter and if taken to task on it, claim he never got it to cover his sorry snivelling ass.

i was mm's away from doing the same after explaining my duff laguna's saga to a 'sales executive' or so his shiny badge said, and his response was "whatever". I just laughed at him after that and walked away, saying just loud enough for him to hear me 'what a tosser', but if thats the kind of response you get from someone who is meant to be an ambassador for renaults brand name, and someone who claims to be a salesman, im ashamed to call myself one. im a step up the food chain in my role at work, and if he reported to me i would have sacked him. pathetic. unfortunately a lot of 'salesmen' for mid range car dealerships like that are the same, so its not uncommon.

in your case, another alternative if you're brave, would be to go in there when there's a big queue at the service desk and loudly demand to speak to the service mgr, then make sure you make your feelings clear to him in front of the whole queue, just about loud enough that everyone can hear you.

i've had my renault since the middle of march, done over 6k in it, they did eventually sort my problem, its not a bad car at all really, but i swear I'll never have another renault based on the quality of staff they employ.

idiots.
it's not only the average car dealer a friend of mine wanted an xj so went to the local dealer 'parmount'
looking at a 40/50 ? grand car not one of them got out of his seat he asked the prices of the different models to be told it's on the dash somewhere he's a millionaire but just because he's got a pair of scruffy jeans and a t-shirt on they ignored him so he went accross the road and bought a landcruiser (cash) and the salesman he spoke to from paramount came in at the time wasn't he gutted to realise he did have the readys to buy one maybe it was the ferrari he got into
he did complain to their head office and has never bought a vehicle from them

...part of Stratstone, Pendragon by another name. They treat their staff badly so why should we be surprised their staff treat us with equal contempt?

Dealer Principal is OK for a start, but he's just the one daft enough to have suckered up to the main men to get the title!

The margins on selling a car can be so tight these days that you can buy a Jag on a credit card and the card commission wipes out the profit. That's why servicing costs so much; £90/hour at Pendragon, and the most important guy in the dealership is the one who does all the warranty claims!

The Police will say that it is a civil matter. There would be all sorts of grey areas concerning them having implied consent to drive the car to make sure that any repair is carried out satisfactorily.

Give me the name of the company and I will get you the name and address of the MD or majority shareholder. Send one to him at the work address, one to the general manager and one to the dealer principle. That way the plebs know that the senior manangent are aware of the situation and that they won't be able to hush it up and brush you off.

I guarentee you that you will see some serious action then.

As already suggested, a full valet by the company of your own choice or the carpet re-uphulstered if they can't get the stains out properly and a full tank of petrol as well. I would also reserve the right that should any major mechanical failure present itself that it will be attributed to their lack of mechanical sympathy as witnessed by your friend.

I don't understand why they would need to test drive it after rectifying the non start with a new starter motor. Either it starts or it doesn't surely?
I had a similar problem with a well known Fiat Alfa dealer in Cheshire with my old Barchetta.
Not like me to shout my mouth off in a car dealership full of potential customers on a launch day of a new model, but......
Free service, tank of gas and a valet.
Oh and I am sure people walked out.

dealers

I work in the trade as a sales manager for a peugeot dealership for my sins. This is also why I don't drive one! Sorry to Pug owners.

This thing has not happened to me in my few years working the trade but have heard similar tales. Basically if I or another sales person wants to drive a particular car, e.g. when I worked at Vauxhall a VX2220 we would use the demonstrator at go for a spin. If the grease monkey wants to do the same access will be denied as he has no reason to drive the car. Hence when such a car comes in for repair which they frequently do the workshop may be tempted to take it out for no good reason. I would organise a meeting with their dealer principle and have a face to face chat with him. There are plenty of other Renault dealers wanting your business so suggest that you will take your business elsewhere. Realising the dealership makes more on servicing than anything else he should then be putty in your hands.

I agree with Alun, Pendragon are terrible for service, staff treatment but unfortunately are now the UK's biggest dealer group. I'd never work for them no matter how desperate.

So far..., had a full tank of juice, meeting with the regional manager this week. I 've put a list together of things that i'm not happy with so let's see how i get on. The regional manager seems ok (disgusted that the car had been taken out, squirmed alot). I think the wa#+er in service is getting axed, even they think he's a wa#+er (wife nearly punched him!! ). Thanks for all the advice, i'll keep you posted.

Regional manager got back to us, i was at work so the wife had to go and see him( ). She pointed out the marks, scratches etc. He is going to replace the scratched centre consul, fix the rip in the seat, even replace the internal door grab handles that look a bit grubby(but not their problem), a full car valet and a second full tank of juice. So quite happy with that !

Unfortunately...two mechanics and the service manager sacked. I'm a little sorry about this but then, they shouldn't have done what they did (especially if they'd totalled the car). As they did with the wife, they filled the regional manager with Shite, so he decided to call on the CCTV footage, (good idea i thought) and all was revealed. Caught red handed.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. They knew what they were doing was wrong, and they would have known what the consequences would have been.

Look at it this way. If you'd just let it go, those guys would have carried on doing the same thing. What if the next time they were "servicing" a tasty car they took it out for a drive and crashed it into a bus stop full of kids? You did the right thing IMO.
