You've got up to 60 days after the close of the auction to do a dispute thing, so if I were you I'd wait for the cheque to come back to see what happened.

it is very difficult for someone to cash a cheque which isn't in their name as it has to be paid into their account, inless the name you made it out to has been changed. the bank should be able to tell the name and account number it was paid into.<br>
deal with the bank personally not over the phone that way you will be speaking to the same person all the time.<br>
