Keep plugging away. Would welding in a gearbox tunnel cover to the bulkhead/floorpan give you the strength you may have lost?

It probably would actually - plus if I use 16 gauge plate on the prop tunnel it should be up to the job. I'll have to make cut outs in the tunnel though for the clutch adjustment (cheapo cable clutch!) and gearbox oil filler. If ever I need to remove the gearbox it'll have to be an engine and box out together job - unlike a sprint there is loads of space to do that with an xe.<br>

The crappy bit of metal spot welded onto the bulkhead which sits on top of the gearbox tunnel was barely attached and almost fell off despite not being rotten! I feel some more reinforcing on the way! I might get the hang of MIG welding by the end if this project!

c20xe throttle bodies
How did you get the throttle bodies to work? i am currently building a kit car and am using a c20xe engine, i was going to run it on dellort twin 40s because could not afford throttle bodies and believe that they work best with this engine. Is there much improvement when using throttle bodies instead of carbs and what gains do you get (power, response etc). Do you need to change any jets etc? also did you make the manifold from scratch and how?<br>
Another question is because i am also mounting the engine rwd, i also need a sump! i'm currently trying to source one from an opel manta but struggling! if you now anywhere that i might find one that would be much appreciated.<br>

er, I havent got anywhere near as far as the throttle bodies - I have much more fundamental stuff to do first like having a car that stays together at speed and stops!<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> From what I can gather TB's don't give much power advantage over carbs but they are more tunable amd flexible and can flow a lot more air without lack of low speed torque unlike big carbs due to accurate fuelling. Plus if you tune the engine its just a matter of remapping the ecu. I'm still undecided whether to use TB's or Dellortos at the moment - purely through fear of the unknown.<br>

Cheers. I think i will opt for dellorto's too, have already bought some weber's off e-bay but are in poor condition and are not matched, so going to sell them and spend a bit more on some well maintained dellorto's. Apparently they give better bhp up top and respond better at low rev's to so looks the way to go.<br>
As with the big wing sump i will just keep looking round scrappies, but they are getting rare so may have to fork out for a new one!<br>

Use bike carbs - much better than dellortos or webers, cheaper, don't fall off tune and much simpler.<br>

Bogg brothers will make you a manifold and supply you with a set of rebuilt, refreshed carbs with correct jettings for 300 quid, all in.<br>
<br>

good luck with the xe conversion, seems to be going well.mine on a winter break for a while. someone was on about getting a manta sump, don't bother, get the one from yukspeed. because its made from steel you can cut it and weld it and hit it with a hammer. i bought a manta one( both are about £120) and had to pay to get it welded when i needed to lose a wing. they will even leave it unwelded so you can tinker with it and weld it youself when your happy with the final shape.

notice you were after a prop shop, i used one in bristol, the guy makes props for all sorts of wonderful things, he'll also be welding my halfshafts when i get all the stuff together. i had a new end for the manta gbox new tubing and uj on the diff end, cost £200. he's on feeder road.
