water pump-help!

whilst removing my water pump, I was suprised at just how easy it came loose!<br>
the bolt stayed in the impellar part, but it all parted company with the brass body that remains firmly in the block!<br>
even if I reassemble, then block the vanes so they don't turn , and remove the bolt to use a draw hammer, I think the same will happen?<br>
any ideas..

Yep, same will happen.<br>

You either need to create a device to draw the cage out; Ted Middleton made a very effective one with a flat bar and two bolts or remove the jacko and prise it out from beneath (rather drastic)<br>

Question to ask is do you need to withdraw it? Nowt wrong with those O rings is there? refurb the pump and re-insert it carefully...

doesn't really need to come out as it's in the lump that i'm replacing (v soon i hope )<br>
as there both 12 vane, I was going to flog one.<br>

The original lump will be stripped and rebuilt over the next 12 months, so no rush......<br>
probably make a pivotable "T" bar at work or short bar with bolt in centre to screw a long handle into when it's dropped, sorry , placed carefuly, down said hole..<br>

It will be a shame if it's not all done by the eastern meet at ferry meadows, as I only live 2 miles away

how you can safely rebuild a pump and see if the oil seal is seated correctly without removing the cage.<br>
Just put the end of a slide hammer under the cage and it will bump up and out.<br>
