Time Wasting Police...

#1 Post by Jon Tilson » Wed Jun 21, 2006 1:20 pm

Way Home from badders yesterday, come behind a blue fuzz transit dawdling at sub 20 mph. No signalling, no indication of anything amiss....so road is clear, I pass it as you would any milk float. Stop at pedestrian crossing, he catches up but no idication of anything wrong. I take off lively, not outrageoulsy slow just as I normally do, thinking no more about it.

Next Traffic lights go orange on me...its 50/50 so I go through. I could have dropped full anchors and squealed it but why bother...no conflicting traffic and I'm on by far the major road. Stop at next lights and he's behind me. Move off thinking nothing of it and blue lights come on. I get out of his way cos he must be now on emergency surely. No...he wants me to stop.

He's rude, complains about my driving and gives me a producer. I'm polite but assertive. Highway code is clear about making due progress, which he was clearly not, and amber light means stop if you can do so safely. I made a judgement as every driver has the right to that it was safer to proceed.

I suppose I shouldnt complain...I could have been shot as a terrorist after all.

Doncha just love em...?

Is it worth complaining? Will anybody listen?

Why should I have to waste half an hour of my valuable to satisfy some dimwit copper's ego...?

Complaining is a waste of time. Mate of mine got pulled over in Richmond area nr twickenham for driving too slowly but they complained he took too long to stop. fact was 1) he was lost and 2) it hadn't been safe to pull over before he did.

Just make sure that you waste as much of their time when you go to produce your docs. Pretend you are hard of hearing or visually impaired and you can't see the problem.

I was also once pulled over in Portsmouth for and I quote "Cutting me up". Single plod in a panda car with nothing better to do than stop me. I don't D+D so that was his suspicion. fact is he was driving excessivly slowly and I didn't cut him up.

Like you say just be glad you weren't shot. No doubt that's what will happen if Plod gets a gun.

Actually complain all you like, chances are there's no camera evidence and they have strict proceedures for complaints. How much is a stamp these days?

Good Luck

Perhaps his wife had put him in a foul mood by refusing to let him buy a Dolomite!

Seriously though, perhaps 'business' was a little slow that day and as a middle-aged, law-abiding, Caucasian male, you were an easy target.

I have to feel sorry for the police on the whole as they are short-staffed and always have to take the flack for everything but this copper was obviously a 'jobs worth'.

It is annoying when you see all the CHAVs racing about at break-neck speed and all the people going round an island whilst talking with their mobile phone pressed to their ear and yet they seem to get away with it. Sod's law Jonners I'm afraid.

On the other hand, for as much as people curse the police, were anyone to find themselves in an emergency situation, they'd most likely be the people we'd think of calling first......................
If he was a complete arse I'd put a complaint in for being generally agressive and over-bearing. In the Met, we were only supposed to give a producer if we seriously thought that the person had no ins, driving licence or MOT. These days, your insurance details are on the screen and if this ties in with the registered keeper and you yourself state your name that confirms that, then really what offences does he think he is going to find??!

It could have been worse though, could quite easily have done you for going through what his evidence would have stated was a 'red' light. You would have been unlikely to win at court even if it was your word against his.
Quite...

but that would have taken 2 lying bar stewards and falsified video evidence (if transits carry video), which I doubt. I would have easilly been able to find several friends who were standing on the pavement crossing the road, who not only saw plod driving without due care but would have categorically stated I went through safely on an amber.
Scott I know there were several good and conscientious police officers in the met. Now that you've left and I know Simon wasnt in the transit, its like I said. I could have been arrested as a terrorist. I do have a beard after all..
So if i cant be arsed to go with the producer will anything bad happen? I once let one run 3 weeks til I turned up with it. I somehow doubt it. Stroppy bitch on the counter at twickenham (where do they find them...no manners) Told her I had the flu, which was true.
Unfortunately, the beauracracy will get you if you don't produce. There is a specific offence of failing to produce documents within the 14 days and most of the staff behind the counters these days are civvies and they will be completely 'jobsworth' types.
Some prat in the Merseyside police pulled my cousin over for going through a red light and nearly hitting the plod car. I was a front seat passenger at the time and none of this was based in reality. I did wonder if Plod was on some kind of illicit drug going by his version of events. It went to court twice as he was actually convicted the first time despite a witness statement from me. He appealed and twas all wiped away the second time. The Plod got a right bollocking and I did enjoy ripping the smarmy prosecution barrister to pieces in court. Waste of bloody time. Prats.

There must have been a reason for them stopping you, something about your driving. It certainly wasn't cos you're black was it...sorry but I'm actually pleased to hear that they actually stop white men at all, it says something about equality to me...and your indignation may be justified, but there must have been something, justify it as you might. I think you're just pissed cos they were hiding in an unmarked on ya, sorry!

Reason...

#13 Post by Jon Tilson » Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:40 am

yes there was a reason. Like hunderds of drivers a day I took a marginal decison on an amber.
Is that a justification for stopping somebody? Probably not. Justification for wasting my time? Certainly not.
Mr nearly please read the original post. I'm not pissed they were unmarked. I clearly stated I passed a dawdling police transit.

I will certainly enquire about filing a complaint as part of the production exercise.
Been away due to computer probs.
So here goes!
I sympathise to a degree, a 50/50 decision on your part leads to.....
But why oh why do people feel fit to give the Police a hard time doing what is expected of them and why do we always deteriate from the original thread and start in racially abusive directions.
We have to deal with a number of issues here.
One, someone somewhere is going to get pulled over for a minor offence and as such will question the direction of resources and how they are deployed.
Two, they will question the parentage of said deployed resources and three, point the finger of blame to said people and accuse them of being of dubious parental heritage.
We all have an axe to grind, but dont give the guy's a hard time for doing their job, no matter how much it stops us from doing our normal thing.
And for the love of all things we cherish, don't implicate people of another race, no matter how commical it may seem.
I have....

#15 Post by Jon Tilson » Wed Jul 05, 2006 2:35 pm

no prblem at all with people doing there job....
These clearly were not. If I had commited a genuine offence, like running a red light, the job would be to report me so I could be sanctioned by the appropriate authorities and made to modify my behaviour before I mow down a granny or mother with a bugy.

I commited no offence at all...the highway code says you dont have to stop at an orange if its not safe. I was up to speed...and too close to stop safely, simple as that.

These half wits were bored and wanted to cause me grief. I could tell by there whole demeanor. They followed me for a good half mile before putting the lights on...enough time to peruse Twickenham hight street for greater felons before seeing no trade and I was the next target. If they had a case on video they would have used it and I'd have no argument. They didn't so wasting my time was their next best choice. I have every right to object as its this sort of conduct that brings the whole force into disrepute...that and the whole gamut from not taking petty crime serioulsy, to killing innocent brazilains and pacifying islamic nutters with their hate placards one minute and turning over innocent law abiding muslims houses the next.
God help us if they ever get the right to carry....
