Goodwood Festival of Speed

#1 Post by davepoth » Sun Jul 09, 2006 9:44 pm

A friend of mine managed to wrangle an extra contractor's armband for this morning, so I went along. All I can say is WOW. I got to touch a Bugatti Veyron, I saw the Maybach Coupé, smelt a heady mixture of leaded petrol and smoked tyres, and even saw Stirling Moss drifting something very loud old and silver. It was so good, I might even pay next year...

I'm sorry the Maybach coupe ruined the day for you.

Surprisingly not that ugly in the flesh. Probably something to do with not being able to see both ends at the same time due to the curvature of the earth...

I went there Friday on a corporate event.

Bloody Brilliant. Especially enjoyed touching the Mercedes Silver Arrow of Fangio, Watching Colin Macrae getting sideways in a scooby. The Veyron was a bit underwhelming but the Maybach was just massive and mean.

It was this one by the way, not the big saloons.

The Audi R10 Diesel was there, I really hope that isnt the shape of things to come in motorsport as its really boring to hear, just makes a whooshing noise.

Did you see the Rover SD1 with the 27 litre merlin engine on the PPC stand alongside the Rolls Royce trackday car? Nuts but I like it.

Also pretty cool was the Renault F1 team making the engine play god save the queen and the French National anthem.

It was a day of automotive porn.

Scary XE powered 1974 Dolomite Sprint Trackday Experiment. Maybe someday soon
I missed so much stuff, it was mental. I just couldn't believe how big that maybach is.
