Quite similar to a Dolly in rear end styling, I think so!
You're quite right about the Daf.
Just as the Dolomite it was styled by Michelotti.
stick in some extra lights at the front and its a dolly estate...
Actually there was an experimental dolly fitted with teh Perbury CVT which had some similar concepts to the daf transmission wise...

My Father in law had loads of these but they rusted badly in the Highlands..
Saw one yetserday at Trentham show, owner had a collection of rubber bands down by the gear selector, perhaps having a laugh?
put loads off drive belts (rubber bands)on these nobody would do them when they got a little older (out of warranty) good thing was only one used to snap so at least it would still get yoou home
when they changed over to volvo's and had a real g/box was a nice easy clutch to replace

My Uncle Tom had one years ago.
I forget the details of the story, but my old man was underneath it and Tom backed over him, panicked, and drove over him again!

Apparently my Grandfather nearly died laughing until Tom went through the back of the garage.

You couldn't script it.

My Fathers' latest escapade (2 years ago now) involved cleaning the gutter's out on the house, falling off the ladders through next doors conservatory.

Morale of this story?

Stay away from me and my family.

#12 Post by Jon Tilson » Mon Aug 07, 2006 6:01 pm

An old girl friend also had one...J reg it was and turd brown. Used to whistle along at 80 ish.
The 33 looks like a ford anglia...well sort of.
The 55 was similar but with a more powerful 4 cylinder water cooled engine.
The 66 was a 55 after Volvo got at it.
All bad rusters and few survivors...
No salt on the roads in Holland obvioulsy.
Anorak off...
The 55 and 66 did indeed use a Renault engine. There someone in the Daf Club Belgium who put in a tuned engine of a Renault 5 Alpine Turbo and believe me, it would take a very special Dolomite to beat it.

They did rust, but no more than the average 70's saloon (and less than everything that came from from Italy)

Some years ago I restored a 33 to concours condition and they are superb little cars. They are very well built and overengineered. I wouldn't mind another one.
