I think almost any car can be made to look better with a dolly front end, the more alike a dolly they are the better!

I might start a buisness which puts dolly front ends on to other cars, I've got the experience

No doubt this guy secretly wants a Dolly
I can't help feeling the Rover 216 GTI is...I dunno. Feels a bit like a 'modern' Dolly, barring the FWD-ness of it. Good, revving engine (the honda twink), good driving position and actually a relatively nice car to drive.

Look good in gun metal grey and lowered too .......or is it just me?

Tempted by one as a daily driver at the moment....

Hmmm, looks a bit BMW-like if you squint at it hard enough.

I always thought the early Rover 213/216 particularly the Vitesse was the spiritual successor to the Dolomite.

If anyone can post an image over a 216 Vitesse I'm sure you will see what I mean.

Imagine it with twin headlights and the positioning of the Rover badge on the grill replaced with a Triumph one and.......

However you may just think I'm talking b*ll*cks....

Can't find the pic of the dolly prototype. Will stick it up later.

I had the really posh 216! The VDP Auto with full leather and head gasket failure eventually! I felt like Victor Meldrew driving it.
If you think that the 216 is anything to do with the Dolomite then thank the Lord the 'mite died with no children!

Imagine it, having ugly kids who aren't that good at anything carrying your surname. Thats terrible!

Some one earlier mentioned BMW. The chap who penned the Dolly, also did the original 3 series so there is a sort of family resemblance if you squint hard enough.

Spiritual man!

Folk bought these for the same reason they bought dollies.

Percieved posher than an Astra/Escort.

I bought my Vitesse because it was just as quick as an XR3i, had the practicality of four doors and the interior was a really nice place to be.

Bit like Sprint owners over the early Golf GTi I should'nt wonder.

Seriously though if someone can do a similar image manipulation with the 216 as the Montego, I would love to see it!

Lovies, they actually badged up a late 216 as a '216 Sprint' but i'm afraid it was without substance and just an end of line special edition to shift a few more cars with dreadful interiors that you'd never be able to match.

Pink chiffon, now that would be an interior to have
