Honda Twink???

#16 Post by Jod Clark » Sat Aug 12, 2006 11:56 am

I think you'll find that the Honda engines fitted to the 216/416 were single-cam, 16 valve. What a stupid arrangement, but at least they had a seperate lobe for each valve. If only it had been chain-driven and not belt.
My bruv had the later 416 gti on an 'H' in green. That possibly was the spiritual successor. An 'old boy's car' with subtle attitude

Honda Concerto / Rover 216 is group 14 insurance. Wolf in sheeps clothing indeed it is. Might 'only' go 125 flat out, but any car that revs to 7500rpm as standard is worthy of 'nuff respek, innit'
Found this quote on the austin rover web resource.

The end result was Triumph died in 1984 – the date that marked the launch of the Rover 213: a car that in concept, deserved a Triumph badge.
Who said BL didn't have a sense of humour and you can read into that what you want!

Words fail me...

Not content with producing a cheap piece of Jap tat and adorning it with a once proud badge, the BL marketing Morons then decide to devalue the Rover badge similarly with its successor, which was quite easilly the worst car in its class on the market at the time.
Not being stupid, most customers who wanted a Japanese car, the sort of people with short memories, no patriotism and no interest in cars btw, bought the real thing...a Nissan, Toyota or real Honda.
Those who bought the rover version could have a car made of steel rivaling the 78/9 leyland worst for quality, interiors that curled in the sun before self destructing, electrics worthy of the Prince of Darkness and all painted by out of work decorators with no taste in colour. I have no idea why it was bought in such numbers, other than perhaps it was cheap on the BAE company car scheme or the other pensioners who bought it were genuinley ignorant of its origins.

A miserable failure and thankfully now an extremely rare sight. To make the bad joke worse on the run out versions they used the beloved Sprint and Vitesse monikers. They should have been sued for that....
My mate had a Rover 100 Ascot. He thought it was an animal

He's got a Pug 206 1.1 now. Thinks thats a bit quick too. He had 2 girls in his car and I pulled up beside him, "My cars quicker than yours" the girls laughed. We both joined a dual carriage way at the same time, it must be sooo embarissing being shown up by my car

Cams and things...

#27 Post by Jon Tilson » Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:18 am

I think the 214 was available in single cam 8 valve K series (poverty spec base model...not popular) and 16 valve dohc K series form. Afflicted as are all K series by silly stretch thru bolts and not enough gasket sealing surface area.

Not sure about the honda 216 version as to the cam count but think most were dohc...they didnt offer dfferent versions at the same time anyway so the twin cam bit was just a badge and trim thing and no different to the other 216's. I know a few friends with these and they do high mileages withot trouble...as you'd expect from a Honda really I suppose.

I quite like that Rover 200 version but they dont seem to last as well as dolomites...serioulsy faded plastics and scabby arches and screen surrounds all round.
