What annoyed me today.....

Watching the news....<br>

This guy who was born from british parents in Zambia, then moved to the UK when he was one year old, joined the British Army at 16, is a Gulf War 1 Vet and an NI vet, did 14 years service (paying income tax and national insurance).<br>

He left the army and got a job, but when he was made redundant he applied for jobseekers allowance....and was told he didn't qualify because he wasn't a British national (Quite why he didn't have the sense to change his passport in the last thirty years wasn't adequately covered, but I digress). He was also told that he was therefore in the country illegally, and if he didn't sort it, would be eligable for deportation....<br>

Not quite so on a major scale but just a little thing - but this digger I'm driving at the moment won't start until the armrest on the LHS is elevated.<br>
<br>
Now, common sense says that when you're sitting in the digger you've already put the armrest down. So you kill the motor, get the depth marked and so forth, turn the key and...squat.<br>
<br>
You then raise the armrest, kill the ignition completely, cycle it and re-start then lower the armrest and carry on.<br>

Meantime theres an article on the BBC news site that 1.4 million people have moved in to this country since may 2004. Is it any wonder our infrastructure is falling apart? Roads overclogged, water, gas and electricity in short supply leading to huge price rises and shortages, NHS a joke, schools crowded. Thats something like 666 houses a day that need to be built, what chance is there of the infrastructure coping? And then they talk of getting shot of someone like that who has proven he's prepared to stand up for his country.<br>

Stories like that really make me angry. In the US, even proper illegal immigrants can get citizenship by joining the armed services for 3 years or more. I guess the reason we don't have that here has a lot to do with the Gurkhas, but we all know how rough a deal they get...

Took me 50 minutes to travel 2 miles this morning because Aberdeen City Council have dug up 2 roads to pedestrianise Union Street in 15 years or something, and the entire city grinds to a halt. Having the meeting to talk over redundancy and being told I will get nothing. Spoke to the Personel Manager and 5 working days is just to long a time to stretch to allow me to get the loyalty bonus, £390...<br>
