Lo all.
I've just bought (stupidly according to the missus) a 78 dolly sprint. The bad bits first (deep breath)... It needs a respray some welding to the driver side bulkhead, body over all is in pretty good nick (very little filler), the vinyl roof was removed and the previous owner decided to hammerite it instead <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> the interior has disappeared somewhwere but at least I could get a good look at all the panels. The steering column is a bit loose. It needs new bushes front and back clutch doesn't work (Just needs bleeding I hope). The good bit is it started first time, admittedly after chucking a cap full of unleaded into the carb air intake first, had to keep revs at about 3k to warm her up but she idled fine and without choke after a couple of mins.

My first question as a new owner is where is the best place to source a new/second hand interior (black). I have looked around but don't seem to be able to find any prices.

Cheers
Re: Newbie
Welcome to Dolomites. I am also a relative newbie. If you want it some of the guys on here will probably just happen to have it. I wouldn't be surprised to see several offers of interiors shortly!!
And Where do you live.
That will be the next Question.

It is good to see that you are taking on a project and getting another one back onto our roads. You will enjoy her and the misses will too after a while.
I am lucky, My misses grew up with Triumphs and she loves the car.

Picture this.
Picking up Sister and her friends one night after they had been out on the Town. before she left she says " Don't pick me up in that Old Heap".
Just to annoy her I picked her up in it. She moaned and groaned (so did her friends).<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

Then she notices that all the Blokes are standing on the side of the road..... All pointing Saying things like BL***y Hell its Sprint. Suddenly these 3 girls who were Ducking are know sitting up.

You know whats going through her minds......YEAH its a Dolomite Sprint and its mine. All the attention went to their heads.

They did ask to be picked up again it it.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
Re: Newbie
Welcome (both)

You'll be lucky if you have an offer of a new interior!!

To start the flood......I have bits and pieces of black in "useable" but not perfect (therefore relatively cheap) condition including seats, but certainly not all bits. Surely to start with the driver's seat is the most important!! There are some black seats on eBay at the mo but they are early (pre '75) without headrests. Where are you located?

Also, what colour is the car as some colours had various shades of interior fitted which may expand your options?

The rest?.........the rest is easy!!!!

Cheers for the welcome Jim. She ain't the wife yet, I definately wouldn't have had it if she was <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

My second newbie question. The guy I bought it off said that the sprints and 1850s could theoretically run unleaded without the conversion because the valve/seats are already hardended, but everything I read says dollys only like LRP. true or not?
Re: Newbie
The consensus seems to be avoid LRP like the plague (theres no standard for the stuff in it and quality varies)

Technically its possible to just use Unleaded, you may need to retard the ignition if you get pinking. or stick to super unleaded

I personally like to err on the side of caution and use normal Unleaded with Castrol Valve Master Plus (lead replacement and Octane boost) (The previous owner recommended Millers VSP to me but I find castrol to be easier to source and use)

If you do use an additive then choose one and stick to it as they are all different active ingredients

Bloody hell the replies are coming in quicker than I can reply to em <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

I'm based in South Wales, Nr Caerphilly, about 20 mins from Cardiff.

I haven't worked out the exact colour yet (pale yellow). I have the front seats (In decent nick) and the back seat (Ripped on the top but other wise ok) and the black rear door trims but thats it as far as the trim goes. The last guy even managed to lose the sun visors. In fact so much is missing apart from the obvious I don't really know what should be there <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> .

He has also taken out the red seatbelt warning light (cos it pee'd him off) and put the choke up there instead. I think he must be one of those classic collectors that manages to do more damage to what remains of our motoring past than rust <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

Re: Newbie
Shame I don't live in Cardiff anymore then!!

Can certainly put together some sun visors for you and think I have a seat back for the rear, definitely the seat belt warning light (what did he put where the choke was?). Will have to check stock for anything else. You'd best make a list........

I'm in Stourbridge - have done Cardiff in an hour (once) but it were very early in the morning and it wasn't in a Dolomite!

Re: Newbie
Cheers Alun, I'll make a list but it will take a while. I'm more than willing to travel to get the parts (not in the dolly yet though). In fact I was only a stones throw from you 2 weeks ago in Halesowen. Took me just over 2 hours (4 sets of roadworks)

The center console where the choke used to be doesn't exist anymore, just a big hole.

I think I'll be joining the club as well, if I join now do I still pay the full fee even though it renews end of Oct (Not being a skinflint, just checking).
If I could go back...
to the unleaded/LRP topic, does no-one trust even "Branded" petrol ?
Is everyone's doubts based on cheapo supermarket stuff or "proper" petrol as well ?

Blimey! I've been using supermarket LRP in my Sprint since they stopped doing 4 star. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> Mind you it only does between 1k-1.5k miles per year.
