Went into Halfords to get a new fan belt.Youth on the parts desk asks what car is it for.Triumph Dolomite or Spitfire I tell him.He asks what make is it,I tell him it's Triumph.Then he asks who makes Triumph,is it a Ford?!!!!<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :rollin --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>
Eventually an older lad comes over and remembers that Triumph is listed under Rover group,hey presto we find a fan belt.Price was £3.99,which as it happens is the price TDC spares charges including carriage.As I needed the car over the weekend I bought the belt from Halfords but I'll be ordering a spare from TDC spares.Having said that,I haven't fitted the belt yet,so I just hope they've given me the right one!<br>
Oh yes,one last thing...the older lad told me that he'd recently found out that a Dolomite Sprint had a twin overhead cam engine! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

Just concluding the saga of the fan belt from Halfords...<br>
It turned out to be the wrong one,it was far too short.Took it back the next morning,the old belt snapped completely as I pulled into Halfords car park.Anyway,I eventually found a belt which fitted,though I've no idea what car it was intended for.Moral of tale; buy a spare fan belt from TDC Spares and keep in the car for emergencies (I'll be in touch soon Malc!).<br>
Another problem I had was that in trying to get the choke mechanism to work,somehow I'd managed to jig the assembly such that the choke was staying on permamently.The car spluttered home,just making it onto the drive before stalling.<br>
To cut a long story short,I ended up re-fitting the original carb (the one from the old engine) and it seems ok now,though it could do with the mixture tweaking.

Andy, let me have the part number of the 'Halfords Belt' and i'll tell you how close it is to the corect item. The corect lenght belt is 1088, and this 1088 will probably be reflected in the part number.<br>

I'm sure it was something like "1050" but I'll check the packaging tomorrow.Also need a dizzy cap - mine looks like it's been on since the car was built!<br>
Car seems to be running ok now (touch wood)...the 1300 is a doddle to maintain compared to the Sprint I had (never mind the Jag) <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>

1088 is the correct length. Will put a cap into parcel as well, post a bit dodgy in Oxon at the mo, but then again, when isn't it. I think the current strike is about the innabilty to agree when then next strike should be and for how long <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :evil --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> .
