chassis number 41

#1 Post by no41sprint » Tue Jul 12, 2005 1:12 pm

am putting it on e bay this week.no idea how much it is worth,
have a load of decent spares, nose piece etc.is it better to sell all complete or sell the spares separately.it is complete but needs welding.was thinking about £650 ,not sure if good or bad, have all the documentation inc heritage cert.
maurice in wales has a foc shell if it goes to a club member.
if i am being optimistic then tell me.
If you are selling it through the club to give it the best chance of future life sell it complete. If you are selling it on open ebay sell the bits separately, you'll get more money that way and terryman won't be so interested in it.

IMHO anyway.

Where abouts is it?
Not local I'm afraid, well south of London (thats south of London, I'm not from sarf lundun. I'm going to look at another sprint this weekend that needs saving from the scrapper.

I won't be at Newby Hall this weekend. Shame, I'd have quite liked an early one and no 41 is certainly that!
Can't find the post...

...where you aked for opinion about a reshell, but its academic anyway; according to the pictures you've placed on ebay what you have isn't original anyway, I reckon the shell its sitting in is late P, early R plate...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ferent.gif ALT=":|">

Have you found an engine/gearbox/axle number anywhere?

IMO still No41 though, just like grandad's old axe.

SHOULD BE THERE NOW ,HAVE RENAMED IT.
DUE TO THE HOLE IN THE BULKHEAD BEHIND THE PEDALS,MY WELDER FRIEND SAID IT WILL COST A LOT OF MONEY TO WELD EVERYTHING,HE SAYS BEST OPTION IS TO RESHELL.I AM OPEN TO ANOTHER OPINION .SOMEONE HAS OFFERED ME £200 FOR IT,BUT I FEEL IS TOO CHEAP.I KNOW THE INTERIOR SHOULD BE BLACK,AS PER THE HERITAGE CERTIFICATE.I AM THINKING OF PUTTING A BUY IT NOW OF £400 .WHAT DO U THINK ? WHERE WILL THE ENGINE NUMBER BE STAMPED AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW.LOG BOOK SAYS NUMBER 57.I WILL SELL THE NOSE PIECE SEPERATELY.

Engine number 'should' be stamped on the shelf of the block under the inlet manifold; very difficult to read all the letters/numbers if any!

Axle number is on the underside of the case beneath the oil, gearbox number is on RHS of bellhousing on one of the 'bulges' at the end of the cross shaft.

Expect min £100 for the nose piece if its complete and rust free...probably more if you hit the right market. I've had to pay much more in the past.

£400 sounds OK, but whether ebay will yield this is difficult to tell. I'd guess the buy it now offer you have had is from someone prepared to break it - wasn't from Essex was he?

Just how much work is required to get No 41 back on the road? I'm looking for a sprint that I can fix up to make a daily use car with a view to continually improving it. Oh and hi to everybody, I'm new to the board and gagging to get back to sprints having owned two in years gone by.
needs welding ,there is a hole in the bulkhead, prob a new shell is best.a club member has offered a me a shell foc.
all the bits are there on the car,it does crank over ,the electrics work.are u local to yorkshire,u can come and have a look.i think the price is realistic due to it being the third oldest.i would guess u would need to spend about £6-700 to make right with the new shell.i have been told that if done up it would be worth £5-6k but i am no expert.someone had tried to restore it but not very well...for the sake of an extra 5 mins ! if u have a picture phone i can take whatever pics u like and send them to you.
