I do remember a friend of my brothers having one of these years ago. It was quite a good car in its day and i believe they are VERY rare now.
Good old AvonBar. Masters before their time. Did 200 of these if i recall, used to see them around Weybridge when I lived that way (think they were based in Byfleet?)

Don't recall the XR2 'pepperpots' though...

8.5 secs to 60 and 117mph top whack are the figures I've read. Just about identical to the Sprint although I don't know how bad the turbo lag would be on one of these.

Avonbar used to based in New Haw which is next door to Byfleet, they used to use the rolling road at Brooklands College to do all their setting up, sadly gone from this area now and moved to Essex, still owned by the same people though I believe so at least they haven`t sold out like some.
There are still a few of their metros flying around the streets over this way. Towards the last few years they really started on VW`s and there are still quite a few Golfs around carrying avonbar logo`s.
I sit corrected!

Always been lead to understand it was mini famed AvonBar! Certainly saw a lot of them (Acclaim Turbos) around in Surrey in mid to late 80's, but I guess there were plenty of Henleys around there too.

Note that article describes lack of turbo lag; worth buying to bung the lump into something lighter perhaps?
