Tax exempt 1850HL reshelled as Sprint

#1 Post by LewisK » Mon Jan 16, 2006 10:22 am

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-DOLOMITE- ...

I've got big pictures of this if anyone wants it - very clean machine (apart from what appears to be a ding in the rear valance and some bubbling).

Looked at it about 3 weeks ago, but I can't insure it reasonably, for what it is, due to nonstandard powertrain.

It's an 1850 auto shell, tax exempt, reshelled as full Sprint spec, and the V5 states its larger capacity <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Anyway, email if you want a load of big pics.....

You don't want to know what my accepted offer was before I found I couldn't insure it...will be interesting to see how the auction goes <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Dilemma I guess; keep it tax free and non standard or re-identify it as the Sprint the running gear came from reshelled to reduce the insurance?

That's....

A nice proposition, but still. I'd prefer someone kept it as it's tax exempt status! ;D

Spose you could always flog the tax exempt registration <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

You could flog the tax exempt reg, however, it the recipitent vehicle is not 'tax exempt' then it make no diff. My Dad has a 'Tax Exempt Non Suffix 1962 plate on his Jag but it sure isn't tax exempt. The way this chap has done it is the nearest anyone is going to get to a Tax Exempt Sprnt and you can't put a plate newer than 'L' on this car as long as you retain the existing V5. You could however put a pre 63 'dateless, non suffix or non prefix plate' on it then without seeing the V5 nobody would know what year it was. DOL 16 would be nice or 16 DOL, mind you, you would have to pay handsomely for those reg's. Perhaps a cheepy, summit like 983 UKX which mathces nobodies initials, reg's with such letter combinations don't match many people initials and thus £600 ish for the plate.

Looks nice, but the current high bidder has a -1 rating, so it probably wont sell at the moment.

insurance for modded cars

#6 Post by djw113uk » Wed Jan 25, 2006 2:37 pm

Speak to liverpool victoria. I did the same to my 1850, and brother has toledo sprint. Their price is then based on toledo rating plus £50 or so for the mods. A straight sprint was always dearer than a lesser model upgraded to the same spec. Add a named driver your age or above makes it cheaper too.. even my m8, 3 months youger with 3 accidents " 2 drivers is a reduced risk" apparantly! oh and go fully comp, as its cheaper, was about £350 excess with me, but just dont crash and u'll be fine!

there were great from about age 19 to 24, since then i am with footman james, who are even better!

i'd take another look. you cant beat a tax free sprint!
Was very tempted to, but I found the car actually impossible to insure in the time I was thinking about it.

I can get, via NUD on a standard sprint for around 400 quid these days. However, they can't do an engine change without an engineer's report so I couldn't have got it back, also this would have made the premimum a bit higher than I liked.

Adrian flux wanted to treat it as a classic car, but coudn't as it would be my only vehicle, and weren't sure how it was a modified car (? - I think they lost the plot there) as they seemed to just be treating it as a Sprint, so they forwarded me to this other place .........

........ who just threw up a fuss because it was too old, and had to go on a classic policy, but I can't get a classic policy because I'm not 21 yet <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

I got bored and came to the conclusion that I'll just buy a real Sprint, or that green Toledo with the Jiggy engine.

Thanks for the heads up on LV though, I always forget them <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

It does sound like fun. The engine must be worth that alone. Hook us up with some pictures if you get any.
