Recent near miss - Watch out for this one.
I recently won an auction for a Sierra Cosworth fuel pump and filter for my conversion for a bargain £10, 3 weeks later and still no pump, so I put in a claim via Paypal to recover the cost of the pump and postage.

Paypal have done the business and got me my cash back but this is a quote from the guy via email after getting a refund on the pump and requesting the £15 postage cost back.

we r sorry but we have not recived no 15 pound postage of u so if we have not recived it how can u ask 4 it bk mate and as for getting ur 10 pound bk is cuz we fefunded it u will not be getting the fule pump and filter

I don't like to judge (but I will!), I have a feeling he probably wears baggy jeans with his arse out and dons a burberry baseball cap and has a mobile surgically attached to his digits. What a Knob. And don't call me mate you cock.

10 minutes after this email he 'fefunded' the £15 probably because he didnt want to get his paypal account cancelled. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

His ebay ID is rallyheaders.

Rant over, I feel better now!

Re: Recent near miss - Watch out for this one.
You only had a fefund because he had (foolishly?) left funds in his paypal account. Had it been empty then Paypal have no 'teeth' or jurisdiction. This is what happened when I made a claim; effectively they sided with a fraudster who then bizarely left me negative feedback. Chased him with County Court action but he scarpered back to Belgium and then Switzerland.
Don't use paypal anymore.

Hate paypal+++++. Have stopped using it to buy with. I think there was an article about PP over the last day or so. Basically PP is crap but strangely ebay stated that they had no problems with it. Perhaps that might be due to ebay owning PP <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ferent.gif ALT=":|">

I think the guy was basically a genuine seller but too thick to work out how to use ebay as intended and didn't occur to him to think of actually emptying the funds from his account.

I can't say anything bad about how Paypal works - I used it dozens of times now with great success and they came up with the goods on my refund in this case. It may well have been different If I'd had paid by other means or if it was a larger amount.

I suppose it goes to highlight the dangers of ebay - you could be dealing with any idiot (maybe even me if your unlucky!).
Re: Recent near miss - Watch out for this one.
I've abandoned paypal. They wanted to know more about me than I do just to 'confirm' my account. Something to do with having received more than 4k into it since it was set-up 4 years ago. Big deal.

A freind of mine is currently taking legal action against a buyer and ebay. They accidentally emailed him a response they were sending to the buyer. So much for impartiality, they were 'off the record' siding with the buyer. Needless to say they absolutely cacked themselves when my friends lawyer wrote to them joining them in the action on the basis that they have been complicit in the campaign against my friend the seller.

So much for safe harbour.
Now isn't this strange?

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Paypal saying that they tried to take £2.94 by Direct Debit from my bank account and my bank (Barclays) returned it for the following reason: (so Paypal said in their e-mail)

"The bank is disputing the Direct Debit Instruction (DDI)."

They have removed my bank account from my Paypal account and I've had to put my account back in again. I got my bank statement in the post this morning and it shows this unpaid Direct Debit. I don't know why it happened as there were enough funds in my account (well within my overdraft limit anyway!) and the bank hasn't even contacted me about it. The backup source of funding (my Barclaycard) was tried and was refused. Again I don't understand this as I'm nowhere near my credit limit on the card. Up to this I've NEVER had any problem with Paypal.

Having seen this thread, I'm thinking about sacking Paypal as well.
I guess to be honest I haven't had too many problems with what PP actually does re: trans and receipt of payments, it's just galling to pay twice ie; ebay fees and PP fees as it all ends up in the same coffer. Just p*sses me off <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

Paypal
I've decided not to use it any more as I've had a load of trouble getting it to accept any of my credit cards and then asking me to subscribe to the extended service. At the time I'd just bought something and the seller only took paypal. Luckily after contacting him he was happy to take a cheque. Defo not using it for selling any more though as like Ken said it galls to pay two sets of fees especially when you're selling low value stuff.
Re: Paypal
The fees are a big rip off.

However I always figure it into the equation as in my case they've come up trumps with a refund which would have been nigh on impossible to recover from someone you've paid by cheque on the other side of the country who doesnt come up with the goods.

PP is essential for overseas transactions.
