"Interesting" Bidding?
"Interesting" Bidding?
Had my eye on that in case it stayed cheap, as I'm totally sick of the gutless rough running fuel drinking 2000 and fancied getting a runaround so I could take the 2000 off the road till I get round to fixing it (I know, famous last words).

I'd very much doubt it'd stay in my budget (which is basically whatever I get for the stuff I'm trying to flog), but I can't help but wonder at the bidding pattern... Am I the only person who finds it odd?

Re: "Interesting" Bidding?
I don't get involved in any auction with a 0 rated bidder. That one looks dodgy

Re: "Interesting" Bidding?
No, its just niaive bidding.

Look at the times and the pattern.

The zero bidder raised it to £10 in small increments where the previous high bid by Jayme would have been exposed; your shill bidder stops at this point lest he wins the item unless he then goes on to create an artificial reserve and wins it to keep it (but the fee structure makes putting a reserve on in the first place more economic than this). Having exposed the high bid he goes on to bid just one pound more, obviously not understanding he has exposed the high bid, to then find he is winning it for £11. Then and only then does he jump to £20 (by far his highest increment so far) in a bid to edge his bets.

He is just new to ebay and surfing the adrenalin of a bidding war that we old stagers no longer bother with.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... on the other hand is a clear case of the seller nudging skywards!

I expect Adam will break it if no one else bids...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">

Re: "Interesting" Bidding?
The guy's a "1" rated bidder now! If anybody wants me to take a look, it's a 10 minute drive from my house. I have a very good idea where to look for rust...

Up Up And Away
Out of my price range now - But if it's carmine and just poorly represented in the photos, I might have a spare bonnet as that one looks crusty at the front... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: Up Up And Away
you wanted an MOT'd car for less than £80! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Titter Ye Not
And what you might find funnier, is I've often managed to get MOTd cars for 80 quid! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

I've tried paying more, and found that I still end up with something that's a basketcase in need of lots of work, so I'm going back to hunting down the dirt cheap cars - They're just as bad, but leave change for a bottle of plonk after picking them up <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Considering that one looks to be a little rough round the edges, and is one of the "not an OHC" models, with the short MOT and a couple of other potential niggles added to the equation it wouldn't be unfeasible for it to go for between 80 - 100 quid. Obviously for the good of the marque the more it makes the better, but I've had similar (on the face of it) cars for as little as 35 quid! Though that one did cost another 35 quid train ticket to collect (unlike Lewis' trip, the car cost about as much as the ticket home, and didn't involve plague pits, so I'd have bought it no matter what <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> ) and 20 quid petrol to get back here.

I'd basically set my limit at a month's fuel in the 2000, as it's doing about 10mpg and I do around 30 miles a week. Figured it's worth getting something else if it can pay for itself in a month, otherwise put the money aside for repairs on the 6 pot wonderbarge (you wonder just how it keeps going <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> ). I do have a soft spot for the TC models though, if I had the storage and spare cash I'd have been tempted to be a bit more serious about it.
