bought another Dolly that is! 
 
Carmine 1979 Sprint, low mileage - beat another bidder in the closing seconds by 6p! 
 
No MOT or tax but he says it is driveable - don't want to risk getting pulled over by the Babylon though.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> 
 
So, big question is, would anyone be able to transport it for me from Rossendale (Manchester way) to the West Mids? I am of course willing to pay.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> 
 
Looks like I'll have to let the 1850Hl go though, can't afford 3 cars and a boyfriend!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

If you are really stuck, I can help out but it wouldn't be possible until at least early June. 
 
Personally, I'd book it in somewhere friendly for an MOT on the day you collect, at least that way you are covered even if you subsequently cancel once you get home. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

I have e-mailed the seller to ask when/where etc. Your idea was a good one Scott. Dollyboy, was there a thread on this and if not, can you fill me in? 
 
Alun mentioned I should see what the tread on the tyres are like first....................... 
 
I have the answer to my Nissan insurance problem though - I will transfer it to the Sprint! (Thanks Jon & Scott). 
 
I got really excited when I read pmn74's post - I mis-read it as 'it is as good as it looks'! I haven't been to see it yet, first viewing will be when I collect it but if it is a rot-box (seller assures me it isn't) then I won't be paying for it. 
 
I'll let you know how I get on, thanks again!

There is a statutory defence which entitles you to take a properly insured and roadworthy car to a pre-arranged MoT test at an approved MoT testing station. 
 
Of course if the car looks half decent the chances of being stopped are minimal, especially if you dont go on busy roads like the M6, and dont attract attention by going in convoy with Jod and Alun in similar dolomites. 
 
The less scrupulous among us may suggest you borrow one of Alun's red ones number plates, VIN plate and tax disk, just for the journey home of course, but of course I wouldnt dream of suggesting such a scheme...

there is one other way......the dead of night. i done this with my dolly and i had to get it from northampton to swindon and i chose to go at night with a mini following me(if i broke down there was no way it was towing me) and even though she was firing on three cylinders and with a few hairy moments i got her safely home i think it was worth it and it saved me money too although thats not everybodies idea of a night out<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> .

Alun & friend took me to see the carmine Sprint today (after picking up Alun's new toy!). 
 
Sadly, the car was not as described and was most definitely not <blockquote>Quote:<hr>nice & clean<hr></blockquote> 
 
Webasto roof was mouldy inside as were seats, back seat had a rip in it, metal on rear seat belts was rusting, choke button was missing, driver's wing mirror missing & the gearstick was worn. 
 
One sill needs replacing as do both the rear wheel arches (seller did tell me about the wheel arches), the boot floor has gone, the doors need replacing (he did tell me about that), there is a sizeable hole at the front of the car beneath the lights which needs welding. 
 
The car that <blockquote>Quote:<hr>starts and runs okay<hr></blockquote> did not.........a man bought out a power pack (after letting slip he'd been starting the car up every day) & Alun got it start but it was only firing on 2 cylinders. 
 
As for the spare alloy wheels, one of them had a huge nail right the way through the tyre! 
 
So, I am still Sprintles but after seeing that car and then looking at my own Sebastian and Victor; I think I am rather well off as I am! 
 
I really must stop looking on e-bay for more Dollys. If anyone has a cure for this obsession please let me know.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

As for the e-bay obsession, I can't think of a cure, but do what I do, and just look for bits and pieces for the ones you have got<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> I'm currently on the look-out for some nice wheel trims and a 1500HL sales brochure in mint condition!

Although it looks very nice on the outside, surely a "complete respray" should include the engine bay as well? Looking at the photos, that part has not been touched, judging by the rust near to the battery, and along the lip edge of the bonnet.

Oxdonian is a guy who I think buys MOT failiure dollies cheap off ebay, does a bit of work to them to get a test on them, and then flogs them on for a profit. I think he also bought the "Moosehunter" race Sprint. He posted on here a while back, seems a nice guy.
