Broadspeed?

#2 Post by hsdolly » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:58 pm

Hi,

Just thought I'd let you know that I've viewed this car today. It's an interesting mix to say the least! There are some positive signs of possible Broadspeed links, such as the flared rear doors, vertical suspension mounts for the rear axle, gusseted rear for exhaust, radiator in boot, adapted boot lid, vented boot floor. However, the car has a lot of Group bits missing - the front end is standard with no vented brakes or adjustable arms, the rear axle looks like a standard axle which had been converted to discs, all minus calipers. The head has been skimmed, cleaned and proably ported/flowed by the look of it. There are three cams - one STR 91, one STR 139, the other looks like a Kent or similar reprofile. The 48's are first series dellorto with Magard linkage. There is a reground and balanced crank, new oil cooler. One of the blocks is near new and looks not to have been rebored, the other looks finished and I certainly would not use it. There is a Freudenberg there too. The pistons are present and one set looks to be shortened although all have been used. It has an adjustable bias box and hydraulic handbrake, although this looks too good to me to be original. The arches have been home-brewed at some stage. The shell is probably an 1850, although it seems to be running a Toledo chassis number. The extractors again look home brew or off something else as the front suspension turrets have been beaten up badly to accomodate them. It has a push button stick with 5 written on for o/d I presume - looked standard box, but hard to tell what's inside it as fitted to car. Equally not possible to check axle for LSD. It is running RHD pattern wipers. Inside is sparce. It has been rolled most likely as the roof, pillars, etc show signs of severe damage at some stage. The doors are dolomite, all the windows bar screen are perspex, so quarter lights have simply been ripped out. The front suspension is using a nifty height extension adaption and the front shocks look newish. Overall the shell is salvageable but poorish quality really. The front badge reads DOHC with 16 below. I would guess the car is a late 72 that was built very early 73 from the all the above. I would also guess that as it went ice racing that if it had genuine group brakes and axles, these were flogged off as not required. There are a few other bits and pieces in boxes, but mostly standard stuff. There are two drilled bonnets and a spare boot lid too. The cage looks like an early type. There is a lot of chicke-s**t welding on it too. The rear end looks to have the Broadspeed quality still present ish - the rest is very iffy really. Anyway, thought this worth letting you guys know as I see one of you is high bidder.

I've just re-read my post and I inadvertantly said RHD pattern wipers - they are LHD actually. More haste less speed at typing!

You certainly know your stuff.

We did have a discussion last time about this car and I was in email contact with the seller to get info such as the vin. We came to the same conclusion about a Toledo vin and it was all very confusing.

It would need alot of work to make it confirm to club regs and MSA by the sounds of it. Its a shame most of its history seems to be lost as I'm sure it would be interesting.
'course, if I had been a long way to look at a car, made an 'out of auction' offer the buy the car, which was refused by the vendor; then made them promise not to settle 'out of auction' to anyone else, I would come on here and tell everyone that it was a pile of shit too, just to keep the price down.

People eh? You've gotta watch 'em.
I don't bull***t as I don't need to - the car is as I've described it - I'm new to commenting on your forum and was trying to make sure you didn't bid on something that may look better than it is. One or two of you had asked me to comment on things in the past, so was only trying to help - make think twice in future and just watch you slag me off as in the past.
I wouldn't, usually, but 50 quid with "reserve not met" is hardly gonna be a bargain.

Edit: oooh! I did it again. Of course, it should sell for around £500 in that condition.

hsdolly dont worry about Jod's comments. He's a close mate of the earstwhile top bidder and would have meant you no offence. Sure his comments were far more for the top bidders amusement rather than an attempt at accusing you of skulduggery...(is that how you spell it)
O well its late now...
