Possible Broadspeed Sprint
Re: Maybe Jod was right?
You're too cynical Jon. That price is a bargain if it does prove to be the real deal regardless of the condition described. If I had the time/money/space/experience and most of all contacts to have a hope of proving it I'd have jumped in. I have none of these. Hell, the parts alone make it a deal, how many of us have a full set of cams? Aluns already said the price would have been higher but for the timing. Give the guy a break. Please hsdolly/oxdonian stick with us, we don't all shoot from the hip (he says reading back his post and wondering!)
Judas Iscariot in our midst?
I agree Jonners - seems like a dirty trick to me.

I will say, however, that Alun's reason for not buying it had nothing to do with Oxdonian's comments - but they may have put off other people who were considering bidding.

If that is the way that people choose to do business then shame on them.
Fair enough....
All is fair in love war and ebay....
Julian if you think the thick end of 2 grand is good value for a shagged bitsa racer of dubious provenance then like oxdonian/hsdolly fair play to you mate. You wont be finding me in the competitors list...
I think Alun had a lucky escape...

Like you I also hope oxdonian comes back on here. He clearly knows his stuff....
Some things can be achieved whilst horizontal...ebay bidding is not one of them, though the position is most useful for gearbox removal or sump work!

Re: Possible Broadspeed Sprint
I suspect that maybe he does know more about its provenance as i too can't understand the interest at that price . No doubt all will be revealed next time it appears on ebay.
Judas and all that
Ladies & Gents - I read your comments with interest - I described the car as it is - my decision to buy it was straightforward - at £2k or less the parts are worth it alone - I am building back up the ex Hamish Irvine Tricentrol Group One racer at the moment and have also collected all the parts (more or less) to make a full Group 2 rally replica - on that basis you can never have enough parts. I will be in touch with contacts in Norway to determine the history of the Broadspeed more thoroughly, but even if it turns out to be genuine original Broadspeed, it will probably cost over £10k from where it is to get it to the finished article - I'll have spent more than that on the Irvine car before it's finished to FIA spec. So it's an expensive game building these old motors back up, but I've been committed (probably should be!) to the marque for over 25 years and at the end of the day you're only alive once. For those of you that are interested, the Moose car goes for a respray in two weeks, so should be out and about later in the year in works colours. Anyway, there are no plots or sub plots from me anyway.

From my point of view...
...(as the other bidder for those of you who didn't know) I actually found the comments made useful as I was unable to view the car personally prior to the auction end. The comments posted above allowed me to have meaningful exchange of information with the sellers and much of what was said was corroborated by them. From this I determined a maximum bid that I was prepared to go to which interestingly was close to the figure mentioned above, and similarly based primarily on the parts, having choice of a few shells to put them in.

As it was, I was fast asleep when the auction ended. It is clear 'oxdonian' had his price, I had mine and I don't think either of us are niaive. I'm happy therefore that his comments publicised were constructive and without malicious intent or subterfuge. Some folks do a good turn every now and again you know...

I would not have bid much further bidding blind as I was so am actually pleased I didn't make him pay any more for the car than he has.

I'm certain though the car's own future may still be uncertain it is in the hands of someone who won't sit on it for a year or so and then just scrap it indiscriminately. I'm sure this will be the ultimate fate of many cars that pass through ebay onto their last owners...

Can I have a go in it when its done?

Re: Possible Broadspeed Sprint
Fetched the lose bits tonight, (Sprint powered up and down the M5,what could be better? ) so have a trailer full of stuff, two engnes and gear boxes, three pairs of carbs including some HS8s and various doors, wings etc sitting at the other house to sift through at my leisure.

The car itself doesn't look too bad for something which has been sitting in a chicken shed for the last 15. Holed at either end of both cills in the arches, but with the wings being off it looks OK elsewhere; boot floor solid as are the inner wings, floors, chassis legs etc at cursory glance. French Blue on the N, but surprisingly chassis number is 16***... Fetch it later this week or next and then that's my last for a while; there are now 10 dollies at Glebe Lane, three here, two at my Mother's... ...I need therapy
