LHD Dolly Sprint with LSD on the 'bay

#1 Post by USASPRINTMAN » Tue Aug 22, 2006 2:15 am

Get a load of this.
The dude was asking $11,000 for it on the Vintage Triumph website.

I would not want a left-hooker. Look where the brake master cylinder is -- right above the exhaust manifold.

I have not seen a Sprint with that sort of sunroof before...
Does look even more of a b**ch to work on than we're used to. Looks like a nice car tho.

Is that the way the original exhausts were at the back, two pipes over the axle? Don't think I've ever seen a real one. I always assumed the twin exit jobbies were only twin from a rear box under the boot like the sports systems have. Twin pipes from there gives more room and no rear box would make it lighter at the back too. Cunning design.
There's no such thing as a "works sunroof". Any sunroof fitting would have been carried out by a dealer, not by the factory.
Interesting; Rimmers now supply all parts for them...!

LHD woes? never mind the heat issue, I like to remove the blower motor to get to the exhaust flange bolts... !!

Professional modification to the inlet plenum to get his battery to fit...?

That's a stainless copy of the origina exhaust pattern Tin', no rear box but rather restrictive with all the gas changes of direction with the side to side silencers. Sounds OK in stainless (as on KDU) but a straight through system breathes much better.

"10 a penny Sprints from the UK". Yes there are thousands of them........not.

"No timewasters or Wankers". Sounds like he might be an ex-pat because I don't think the Americans understood that particular term.

I'll have to remember to adopt the phraseology at my next auction.

I think I remember seeing this car a few years ago advertised for 8000 euros.
That would be a cool photo' Mark, two Sprints side by side but with a definitely usa style background.

So how many are reckoned to be over there now?

Doesn't Richard already have a photo like that from when he had two sprints?

when I last did a count I think I included this one. this guy is a triumph dealer and on one of his previous auctions or his website, can't remember which, he mentioned he had a sprint. I did contact him at the time but got no reply.

I have 10 Dollys counted for, 9 Sprints and Harrys 1500SE.

Cheers
I do have a photo of OMK 172R, the white 1977 restored Dolly Sprint I bought last Fall and OUD 777P, the red 1975 Dolly I bought last Spring but sold to a man in Georgia. There was about a week when I had both cars in my driveway. I think there's a Mustang in the background.
A Ford Mustang.
I bought a new-shape 2005 Mustang in light blue. I use that as my commuter car. I can't -- and won't -- risk the Sprint for that duty around Detroit.

The '05 Mustang is a decent car. Mine has a 4.0-liter V-6, 210-horsepower. 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and 23 mpg to boot. It's a looker and the quality has been xlnt.

Too bad it doesn't have the bags of character of the Sprint, though. The Mustang is just a car.

The Sprint is a sensation.
